What tracks by Macca should we hit next week? Let me know here! This man never fails to impress me. Studio or live... it doesn't matter. Paul and Wings ALWAYS bring it.

From The Space Within Us 2005 Concert DVD: "Too Many People / She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" The second song immediately follows the first, and the crowd went wild. Or from the Run Devil Run LP: "All Shook Up", "Brown Eyed Handsome Man" (Yes this one had a video), "No Other Baby" (also has a video), "Shake a Hand" OR for a live version of All Shook Up go to Paul McCartney - All Shook Up LIVE - Friday 3 December 1999 (The Parkinson Show). (Dave Gilmore is on this live cut plus this show has many more great live cuts)

Imagine Lee that you’re 13-years-old in the ‘70’s and you’re broke. You see an advertisement with Columbia Record Club and for a penny you can order 12 albums with a commitment to buy 6 more at regular price. It’s a major record company making a contract with children across America without parental consent. That’s how I acquired Born to Run, Who’s Next, Darkside of the Moon, Damn the Torpedoes, etc.. and of course Band on the Run and Venus and Mars. Now imagine my brothers Tom, Tim, Terry and Mickey do the same thing. That’s five illegal contracts equaling 60 albums to share. Then imagine RCA Record Club had a similar deal. Well, that’s how broke Muck began his vinyl record collection. I love this record so. My 18-year-old son asked me why we listened to the whole albums. I explained as Rock and Roll grew in popularity and artists wrote their own songs every track became important. Most of my favorite songs were not the hits but rather the tracks surrounding the hits. For instance I love Born to Run but my favorite song is Backstreets. That’s just how it was. From V&M’s Letting Go, Medicine Jar and Call Me Back Again are great. The latter was my answering machine greeting. I love what you do. The song choices are superb. You’re the portal to our youth. Imagine that.
@billbitterman948718 күн бұрын
I didn't build my record collection (modest collection...about 500 albums) with the Columbia Record Club. My order wasn't close to the ones I ordered....thought I was scammed. But, when people will ask why I bought (and still buy) albums, your reasoning is spot on. On Born To Run, the Bo Diddley beat in She's The One just got me going. Albums were meant to be played from Track 1 through the last track. There was a reason behind it whether there was a specific track or not. And, often the best songs were not the singles.

Some people say the song Venus and Mars was written at the Plaza Hotel in NYC the night George and Paul signed the papers to dissolve The Beatles. John didn’t show as planned and sent 2 balloons. John and Yoko are said to be Venus and Mars with Lennon being the “good friend” who follows the stars. He supposedly didn’t go to the meeting at the advice of an astrologer. Below are what is said the lyrics were: “Sitting in the suite of the Plaza hotel Waiting for the end to begin Bloody papers, strawberry line A good friend of mine, follows the stars Yoko and John are alright tonight”

IMO this was Paul's last great album. These two songs (three, actually) demonstrate Paul's mid-70's powers as both a rocker and with earworm pop. The way "Rock Show" name-checks Jimmy Page, plus the mention of 'scoring an ounce'... so edgy! Plus it might be Jimmy McCulloch's finest moment on record with Wings.
