We fought a civil war over two things and two things only; the status of Northern Ireland and the idea of swearing fealty to a king *at all* for the first few years of independence when Ireland was technically part of the British dominions. And the latter was just as controversial as the former. To be called a king or queen is a near insult in Ireland. It is equivalent to being called a parasite.
