So bouldering with a harness is socially acceptable if it's on a V14 linked into 5.13? Say no more!

Man, a v14 start makes me think it would make it harder than 5.14D. NIce climbing!
@paulrobinson876 жыл бұрын
grading climbs like this are so difficult because it is so different from a conventional route. It will be interesting to see what people in the future will think of it!
@cole18706 жыл бұрын
"The Fly" is a V14 / 5.14d so maybe that would set the precedent for grading this?
@cyruschan4275 жыл бұрын
isnt 5.14d technically a V16/17 ?
@JOBoarder275 жыл бұрын
@@cyruschan427 The comparisons can't really be made, however you can often consider a section of a route equivalent to a certain bouldering grade. That being said, the hardest routes in the world at 5.15c or 5.15d are said to have contained something like a v14 or v15 difficulty boulder problem in the middle of the route. I don't think there's been a route completed thus far that has a v16 boulder grade associated with any part of the route. This route is different because it contains the boulder problem at the very beginning of the route when you're still fresh which is presumably why the route is graded easier. If you had to climb 5.13 before a v14 it would probably make the v14 significantly more difficult to complete.

Such an awesome boulder at the start! After the V14 did you feel you had the 5.13 exit in the bag, or was there still some worry of falling?
@paulrobinson876 жыл бұрын
Cole the first section of the route portion is the hardest. I got to the rest and was really nervous I would blow it. I had practiced that section many times before so I had the muscle memory. It is about a v7 or v8 section that leads to easier climbing at the top! After that initial boulder i thankfully was not that tired so I was able to keep it together and not be that nervous

Steven Moore the top section is called pizza Dick. You more or less climb a v7 or v8 boulder problem into pizza Dick to finish it off

clipping into the rope seems super sketch, my buddy had someone fall 30+ feet one time because he clipped the rope into his harness and the clip came undone. Where you at all worried about that or have you clipped into your rope before?
@paulrobinson876 жыл бұрын
blake yeah I agree with you completely. I was not very happy with doing it that way but for such an extreme case as this climb, it was unfortunately unavoidable. If I could have tied in at the base I surely would have preferred that. I wonder what the best option for this would have been...
