Been following since the beginning! I remember in high school wood shop 1999, I sat next to Clark Hassler. At the time he was on Blind and I remember him telling me about a kid from the valley he knew named Paul. He was like "this dude is the next Koston." To me, Clark was like a God. He was the best skater in our town, so for him to say that, I knew the kid must be REALLY GOOD! When he and Mikey hit the scene, it was amazing.

I've met Paul 3 times in my life (2013, and twice in 2014) and he's even given me positive and constructive feedback on my music in 2018. I grew up watching him since 2005 and i did shed a tear during this video because I am so proud to look up a person who has brought together skateboarders worldwide as a movement through the dying times of skateboarding and has been such a monumental figure in a sport i was never good at but will always love until the day i'm no longer on this earth. To me, he's the Kobe Bryant of Skateboarding as Eric Koston is the Michael Jordan of Skateboarding, and not to sound morbid about anything but only being realistic, the world will NEVER be the same without Paul Rodriguez or Eric Koston. I put my life on that. Thank You for always being my hero, most played character in Tony Hawk's American Wasteland, taking the time out to meet and joke with me at Dew Tour in Brooklyn, and overall, always remaining yourself throughout decades of so much within the world. You're forever loved, Paul. Thank you.

It is a perfect story. Everything you describe reminds me of me at 13, 14, 15, years old. It’s all I dreamed of. All the same heroes. I’d have stayed on Girl. In my head then, that was the final place in skating. Nothing came true for me, despite many years of dreaming it, and making staking my life. I couldn’t stay focused as girls, weed, and booze entered my life. Being one of the best in my little town during that period was about as good as the story ever got for me. One of the kids I skated the park with as a 12 and 13 year old kid, Tony Trujillo, went on to live the dreams we all had. Congrats man. We all only get one shot at this, glad you made it your reality. That reality only exists for me in a parallel universe, the point of intersection that my reality diverged from. And you’re right, 20 years is a blink of an eye. Your Dad was right too: what got you there keeps you there. Amen. Aloha. 🤙🤙🤙🤙

May God bless you evermore, Paul. Thank you for sharing all that. Very sweet to see what you’ve accomplished Those back foot flips are so glorious... I remember having the hope of being pro so I can imagine how awesome it feels. That was when we were at YMCA skate camp together in 1999 and I saw you were riding for DNA, busting nollie this and nollie that with ease, I was stoked for you knowing that you would be one of the greatest skateboarders we’ve ever seen if you would stay dedicated. Behold, it has come to pass, congratulations brother. I felt content back then realizing that I could not be pro because I wasn’t as talented as you and that made me happy because I know God made you and people like Philipe Gustavo and Carlos Ribeiro to be very rare and awesome to behold. If you weren’t rare, skateboarding in this world would be sorta boring to us. You know? You are a great blessing to us all. I cannot speak of God’s blessedness without also giving you and all my dear fellow people a warning that God hates Ice Cube’s music because it is dark, violent, arrogant and vulgar. He says His son died on the cross for O’Shea and that He will forgive him because “he knows not what he does.” So He loves him but not gangster rap. Just as our parents would punish us more harshly for breaking their rules multiple times, God punishes people who refuse to obey Him despite them being warned multiple times. “Let the wise hear and gain understanding, let the righteous person be righteous evermore as they listen to the righteous one.” Amen May God give grace and peace to you all.
