Lampard and Gerrard rarely played as central midfielders. They were attacking midfielders. Comparing them to Scholes is pointless because they played in different positions. When Gerrard played in centre midfield he'd empty the midfield too much by making too many forward runs. He'd also try to play the killer pass too often; when keeping possession is imperative in that position. When Benitez took over, he played him much higher up the pitch. That's why he scored a lot of goals from 2004-2010.

Buttner is 24, longevity is not a topic of discussion about him. Zaha is raw but proven, playing in the championship and winning promotion is not something to be taken lightly. and he also had a good game against wigan last weekend. valencia had injury problems last season his form dipping was expected. Chelsea are a worse team than the one with drogba, city without tevez and balotelli will be a joke, arsenal without rvp are fourth place runners at best. United will be up there as always.

In his best years, Scholes played in a 2 man centre midfield beside either Keane or Carrick with 2 strikers ahead of him. Whereas Gerrard played off Torres with Alonso, Mascherano, Lucas or Sissokho playing centre midfield. And Lampard played off Drogba with Makelele, Essien, Mikel or Ballack playing centre midfield.
