"When I was in my 20s and 30s really pretty much what I thought was really good and liked, so did everybody else," Simon said. "That's not the case anymore. But I'm past that point in my life, I am only concentrating on what I can make and how I can do this without lying."

Paul Simon is a monumental Giant of songwriting, , His subject matter can be direct as in the narrative of “The Boxer “ and “America” but as he describes, the “Subconscious” adds Dreamy imagery to illustrate the story of many of his songs, as in “American Tune” ~ “I Dreamed That My Soul Rose Unexpectanly, Looking Back Down at Me, Smiled Re-Assurantly” and there goes the “Statue of Liberty, Sailing Away To Sea”, , In my mind He, , along with Bob Dylan, were amount the Earliest to Write at such a Deep Level. Therefore I am sure he inspired many greats after him, , Neil Young, , who also wonderfully draws on dream like scenes unexpectantly (as in “Cortez The Killer”), , other greats for me are Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, Townes Van Zant, early Springsteen and Rickie Lee Jones.

I'm really glad Paul Simon talked about how he creates the songs he does. He's totally honest here. He says the songs are already out there and you just have to reveal them. Many songwriters and including myself feel the same way. The cool part is you get be the arranger though. You get to assemble the song in a way you like and hope others like. Paul was one of my inspirations on composition and guitar playing. Hope he can do one more album. Would really be cool if him and Artie would get together for one more album.

Paul wrote some of the most incredible songs (although having some clunkers here and there) but I think he was the main force of the Fab Four. You’ve got one of the greatest songwriters in history willing to talk to you and, in a 6-minute video, you set aside a combined 1 - 2 minutes to hear what he has to say??!!….the rest just concert and narration filler. Film editor, stop doing what you do because you do it terribly.

Only those who grew up during the singer-songwriter renaissance of the 60s and 70s can fully appreciate this man's enormous gifts ... Perhaps every generation feels the same way about its music, but what in the present or future can compete with James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell, Dylan, Neil Young ...and one generation possessed them all

Sound track out there with Art and Paul talking before sound of silence. Art was saying to paul how he hated talking with a mic. After some discussion Art says to Paul "i would like to do a song about communication" " next recording on the tape was Paul working through" sound of silence." So inspiration comes many ways in many forms

I think it's cool that he realizes he's not relevant in today's music or listened to by young people, and that he also doesn't care. He can just be an artist and write songs that are good by his standards. That's the fun in being successful and having money:)

He's kind of right in his saying that there's no cultural walls in music when you cross the divide I thought you know you're right If I was on an island for 20 years after being stranded marooned whatever and isolated from all things except for eating maybe just nothing but coconuts and leaves And a jazz person happened a shore and started playing or singing jazz I might listen to em? You know, who knows in those kinds of situations You might accept anything 🚪🚶 And if Mr Simon ever read this he'd say You know I had a friend named Art once...... Let me rephrase that, I had a rival in the music business who I got along with and wrote songs with named Art.... anyway He said the exact same thing Or not who knows I never met mr. Simon nor talked with him about buildings and life

You don't seem to be aware of your babyish mind's need to compare and how crude and unrefined that type of thinking is. Paul Simon is an original, creative, ingenious, innovative and prolific artist/songwriter. As he says, the songs he wrote were already there; they were just revealed by him. Your use of the word "better" to downgrade another artist -- and then stomp you feet with "Yeah, I said it" -- shows on what infantile level that mind appreciating one artist better than the other may be in a severe state of self-degradation and, as a result, a estate that keeps on projecting that on to others. Bob Dylan has written songs that have set the tone to a time as has Paul Simon. "Better" is nothing but the opinion of your mind, creating war between two great minds that have changed our understanding of the world, of love, of the world, and even influenced political and social movements. And, sometime, if you care, stop and remind your mind: every time it compares, it looses.

His buddy, the other guy, I forget his name told Simon he needed to be more dynamic, less shy and willing to come out of his shell, more outgoing, less introspective and more outrospective, that guy, later, said, to, that re created a monster, a monster called Paul, partner to the one guy.
