Terrific version! A bit of the Traffic arrangement, a little classic folk - some great bass riffs! Gorgeous!

Loved the first more traditional part very, very much! In fact it was brilliant!

I don't know whether its the song or the interpretation but sure spills down spine. One word for fellow commentators: c mon guys stop comparing at least for this song , for Kök Tengri's sake :))

By the way, I love Traffic's long live version as well! First heard as a student in London with my friend Los Ainsworth... and never since has it lost its magic.

My favorite version of John Barleycorn is the Watersons with Mike singing the ballad. I saw a notification that indicated that The Copper Family was involved? Yes? I know the contemporary idea is that traditional folk music has to include Jazz etc. I don't agree. How do we keep these stories if we turn them over to the music business?

@cptstax Sorry, I was a bit flippant, I did read your blurb mentioning that, and I do appreciate being able to hear the song. Maybe a still would have been a better choice...

@FuzzehBlanket Have you heard Mike Waterson sing this?

I love his singing. This song doesn't need a lot of musical athleticism. Mike was fantastic. I think it's on 6 Pence & spicy Ale

Try Roy Bailey's original version, which I learnt in Primary School in the 1960s, before the Waterston's re-arranged this traditinal song (although this is very good as well, and has been often copied).

That must also have been an other interpretation, because the song is much older.

Steeleye Span's version is also very good, again different but closer to the original.

The start of the song is wonderful. I don't like the next modern arrangement. It doesn't fit with the first part of the song. Other versions of Traffic, Jethro Tull and Fairport Convention are much better than the second modern part of this great song.
