Never really been a dedicated follower of Paul Weller but I must admit, every time I hear one of his tracks it blows me away, like this one does every time. I also love 'You Do Something To Me'. Bloody brilliant stuff that.

Massively influential on me as a young female growing up in England in the 80s. Unique and if anything underrated voice. Working class hero and poet. Remains to this day the best dressed man in music. In fact best dressed man in every field.

But I don't think there's much in it between the 1st and 2nd. For me personally it was 95 he started to decline, when all the britpop garbage latched onto him.

yeh, but you can still find those places now and again, inside sometimes it all comes flooding back and on the odd occasion you meet someone who sends you back there again. Rare but its happened to me.

The "Modfather." He's revered in the UK; justifiably so. First heard this fantastic song when I was driving through Chicago. He "borrowed" ELO's 10538 Overture riff for this gem & they let him use it.

Ironically, I recently posted a comment on The Faces playing Flying live. It's my favorite song off of First Step. Weller blatantly "lifted" the riff from ELO's 10538 Overture. It wasn't something that just sounded akin to Changingman; like Dear Prudence or Flying. Take care and Peace!

@@thomasandersen6719 Is it? Try listening to Faces song, Flying.. which pre-dates Overture. I'd say it's likely ELO 'borrowed' a riff or two as well. One might also argue that it's very difficult to name a 100% original recording.

@@Paul_John_Weller I was messaging Channing Tatum and I sort of blew it. I thought it was someone pretending to be him, and pretty much said so. Didn't go down well, lol. So, I guess it does happen occasionally. But, getting replies is a good way of touching base with your fans. And I listened to the Jam way back in the day. There's a nostalgia thing going when I hear the music these days. It ages well.

this tune makes me remember a time and place , we` d drifted from Style Council ,definitely moved on from the Jam , moved far more over into House music`. Changing man .made me remember Weller , we`d changed, he had too . Was a Mod at 11 , still a mod ,with a small m , at 48

Never really kept up with Weller’s post-Jam output but holy cow, he sounds like Steve Winwood here! Also, the Electric Light Orchestra called and want their “10538 Overture” riff back.
