@@godfreydaniel6278 I disagree. Paula made emotionally stunning music in her own right as a solo singer/songwriter, not solely as Peter's backup.

@@TheColeTruth - It's true that she's a fine artist - but her subsequent work never caught the ear of the world as she did here. I have no insight, of course, as to what SHE considers her high point - she may well consider something neither you or I are aware of as such, or believe she's yet to get there, for all we know...

@@godfreydaniel6278 I'd say Paula Cole's "This Fire" album being nominated for 7 Grammy Awards (first ever female without collaborators up for Best Producer award) multiple solo world tours, headlining Lilith Fair and having multiple top 40 hits of her own would likely suffice.

It's not just her voice and looks ,that got to me. It's the way she glides around the stage and moves so magically. I sort of object to saying Paula sang "back up" to Peter. Peter sang male lead. Paula sang female lead. No obviously Peter wrote mostly for a male lead, but it's a testament to Peter's song writing that Paula had that much room to fly.

Came back today to watch this video again as I really enjoyed it the other day. (I'm also from Massachusetts but not as small as your 6,000 town population)… "Can't Get There From Here" haha… Here’s proof that you can, and hope it was a great ride for you (it is a crazy business)… Love Peter Gabrial, Papa Wemba and the amazing drummer, Manu Katche… In Your Eyes (imho) was an amazing piece of work, AND you were a big part of it… Everybody had their parts to do and performed it with great Authority... Another video I often watch is Come Talk To Me from the same tour. An awesome performance by you on that one as well. I think around that same year, you also came out with Where Have All The Cowboys Gone, which was a big hit for you and the people loved that one and still do, to this day (that’s staying power)… Bless you and thank you for you’re gift of music & song

I got the promo CD in 93. Saw her open up for Counting Crows and Cox Family Trio same year. Instantly became a life long fan. I met her when she came back for one show at Berklee after being away for like 8 years. Absolutely amazing and was in the first row right at her piano. I had a meet and greet before the show and I whispered something in her ear and she burst out crying. We've been friends ever since. Real gentle soul.

It is amazing to think of the horrible cave in which I resided over the past 30 years (figuratively). Back in the 70's and 80's I was a huge Genesis and Peter Gabriel fan. I just saw a video, even tho I knew it was not new, of Peter Gabriel's "Secret World" and was completely transfixed by the female vocalist. Her voice on "In your eyes" is astounding! Now I know who she is, and might I just say it is no surprise that Peter Gabriel selected Paula Cole to join his tour. Paula's musical talent, vocalist talent, and the understanding of songwriting pertaining to performing the song is completely in tune with Peter Gabriel's style going back to his beginning with Genesis (ie. "Supper's Ready"). My only regret? I spent too much time in the cave. I see other comments wishing Paula Cole a Happy 53rd Birthday, let me just say may your 54th year bring you the unimaginable happiness that your talent brought to the millions that shared the love 'In your eyes'! 🎂

I wouldn't call Paula's music "Rock" even though she had some VERY rockin' songs during this era. Her music overall is too eclectic to be put in that box. But I will say Paula has just as much, if not more badass stage presence than most rock bands I've seen (her confidence and risk taking is effortless. Her band's musicians are also powerful in their own right!) and the piano kicks are just the cherry on top. But it never comes off as flaunty or forced rocker bravado either. What you are seeing is a musician literally being possessed by raw, beautiful, intense music. Paula Cole is definitely up there with the greats in terms of having the full package in that her attitude, movement and vocals/instrumentation are all mighty fierce live.

"I will wash dishes while you go have a beer"? I never understood that lyric. Who does that? Why in the world would anyone want that? I mean, she's talking about somebody who actually exists, right? Or at one time did? I'm no cowboy, but I'm I suppose I'm a typical lazy butt man. My poor wife wants our family to eat healthy, but that requires buying stuff and cooking stuff with actual recipes and using pans and omg. I'm just way too freaking lazy for all that! I'd make dinner with.. mm. How would I actually make dinner. Ramen. canned chilli, canned soup. Costco pizza or hotdogs or Panda Express on Fridays. I might have fresh fruits and veges for about half the week, because I'd go to the store on Sundays. But that's no where near good enough for her, so... she buys the stuff, and she cooks. And then I do all the extra dishes while the boss has a beer, lol. Well, she doesn't have a beer, but she sits and calls people and goes on facebook and kinda does her thing for a while. Sometimes she plays a J.P. Sears video or something that we can both enjoy. When I'm done with the dishes I'll brush her hair for a while with this brush I bought her that she loves, or scratch her back with this other brush I bought her which she she also loves. But anyway, she cooks while I play, and then I clean up the mess while she plays, and then we maybe have a little time together before I go get the kid ready for bed, and then she reads to him. It's pretty lopsided, she does a lot more work than I do, but she's just a lot more ambitious than I am about stuff, so. This is our semi-functional compromise. I end up doing a lot more work than I would without her, but she still does a lot more work than I do! What in the world does she see in me, I have no idea. If all women are like her, and I am like all men, then I have no idea why any woman does anything with any man.
