I repaired mine without purchasing a new spring. I just bent the broken spring back into shape with some needle-nose pliers. Works great!

Great tip! I would have done the same with mine but the whole lot including the release collar went missing! Still, £11 for everything including the ball bearing wasn't a bad deal for the the spares.

Thanks for the tip of stretching the last clip to reinsert it on the shaft. That works easily to finish the bit holder reassembling.

In addition, when using that method (which is excellent!) Use a flat blade screwdriver on top of initially located 'tail' of the slightly bent hog ring and use it to simultaneously keep it in the groove and to keep the thin thrust washer down and use another flat blade to pop the remainder over the groove.

My dude… THANK YOU! You explained the repair perfectly, I was able to do the same for my impact driver. I had difficulty getting the retaining ring off but I found using two tiny flathead screwdrivers pushing in opposing directions at the gap makes it much easier. Thanks again

Thank you.for the video! Very helpful I did find that a curved pick made it very easy to get the ring back on. Just get one end in and pull on the other side with the pick. It drops right in

UPDATE!- STRETCH THE HOG NOSE SPRING SLIGHTLY. THEN USE A TINY FLAT HEAD!!! ****FROM THE INSIDE!!! INSIDE, INSIDE, INSIDE THE RING****¡ Very important! It goes right on!

Put retaining ring on one side use needle nose pliers to grab other side of the ring and the outside of the sleeve. Stretch ring and push down at the same time. It takes a few tries but works well.

Is there a way to tighten the whole chuck mine is like an egg beater dewalt users know what I'm talking about I've bought 3 and they all do the same thing is it just poor build quality or is it a lose screw or nut or something that can fix it

Man my rigid is doing the same thing, any experience with those using the same spring as the Dewalt? The drivers look similar and the rigid also has the same retaining washer

That is really stupid, you go to great pains to show us how to put the spring and bearing in with the spring going on after the bearing then without saying any different you assemble it with the spring going on before the bearing.

Agreed with Steve James. Can't understand why you did that. At least clear it up instead of just hoping no one would catch the mistake. Thank you anyways. I simply repaired it myself. And it worked terrific. But thought I'd just check the ol' interweb to see if I got it right. Could be very frustrating for someone not mechanically inclined who happened to see that.

Not really. People calling this a bad design don't realise that most of these tools featured in videos like this have done A LOT of work. That's as daft as saying brake pads are a bad design because you get dust on your wheels.
