One thing I'd like to clear up is that the sounds of this pedal are all analog. So, what do you think? Could this be the future?!
@IV94704

It sounds great, very flexible, but not the future. For the price there are many other devices that offer some of those same sounds and then some and even more flexibility. Analog, digital doesn’t matter - good sound is good sound.

How does a fully analogue pedal utilise digital presets and digital faders? Doesn't add up but if there is a way they get around that I'd love to hear about it.

@@MrAllstar without looking the pedal up on the internet... my guess is: the faders have a discrete number of positions, let's say 12 bits worth, so 4096 positions for each fader. The values from the faders control the behaviour of the preamp's various analogue circuits - eq, overdrives, the fuzzes etc. This means the signal from the guitar pickup all the way through to the output of the preamp is completely analogue but there is a finite (but astronomically large) number of possible combined fader positions and button combinations. I expect 256 positions (8 bit) per fader is more granularity than required given the tolerances of analog components. Hope that makes sense.

Yamaha had these features on their DG 120 series of amps back in the early 1990's. Every knob has a motor which moves to the setting it's saved in. They have 100 save banks, and are fully midi controllable. Mine still works flawlessly after 20 years of gigging. Great to see this tech getting used in a pedal finally! Great tones too.

This is not overpriced. It's a lot of money but this is a versatile piece of gear in a rather reasonable space, with good quality parts, well thought out features, asthetically well designed, combining traditional components in an innovative, interactive way. To me it's certainly more of a niche product, but that's not a bad thing. What I really appreciate about stuff like that is that it gives you options within its structure that may very well be uniquely inspiring. To reshape the midrange in real time, like in mid song if you will to go from bright and chimey sounds to dark and full "wall of sound" type tones, to include the fuzz and its gain structure in real time adjustment, just to switch to another preset, maybe midi engaging effects in the LOOP... I think this is a piece of gear that has a great potential to inspire you to do things, compose and play that you may not have considered before or normally wouldn't and that's something I really appreciate in my gear.

After the CXM and going back and reviewing all of the other CB pedals, owning the CXM and having the Preamp MK II on the way... I’d say Joel from Chase Bliss is the greatest genius the pedal world has ever seen. He’s the most forward thinking. He would be working for Google or Facebook but thank god he makes pedals :) Along with Meris, he has created pieces of technology that allow you to have every option and somehow control every parameter, like an engineer would be doing for you in a studio. Now, at home, you can record guitar, vocals, drums, bass, synths, keys...any instrument you want and not just tweak it until the ends of the universe, but control pitch with literal perfect tracking and absolute perfect hi fidelity. I don’t think most players realize why these pedals are expensive. It’s because they are not basic guitar pedals! They are more musical/studio tools in a guitar pedals format. I actually think the prices are low for what you are able to do with these. In the 1980’s, it would of cost thousands in tack gear and studio time to achieve any of insane tones from several Cb pedals like the THERMAE. Joel talks about them the way a software designer explains how an computer works. They are extremely ahead of their time and someday soon, someone will come along them to create a masterpiece. It’s like when they gave Jimi Hendrix a Strat, a Marshall, a FuzzFace, Uni-Vibe and an Octavia. Look what he was able to create with just that alone. Imagine the album Jimi Hendrix would put out if he had Chase Bliss pedals....

The person who asks himself "what happens if I pour beer in [my own product]" after developing a number of 21st century tech onto guitar pedal IS THE definition of an passionate entrepreneur. This type of CEO knows from the get-go that the people using this pedal will probably be very passion-driven themselves if he has a product to match their level of passion: the very first thing he has to know is what happens to it in its 'worst case scenario', cause we already know what it's capable of in its 'best case scenario'. This is the level of quality control that differs from other seemingly profit-driven trend-setters. Chase Bliss Audio, if you're reading this - keep up the good work. And keep the beers pouring lol

I bought one mainly based on this video and 1-2 other respected KZbin reviewers and have to say it did not disappoint. It sounds incredible. It has a fidelity that needs to be heard to understand it and the operational features are not just gimmicky. The faders moving to a position gives you instant visual feedback to where you're at and you can make instant adjustments to the sound. I also gasped at the €800 price tag but now that I have one I completely understand what I paid for.

When you think of it... it really isn't a bad price. It is a combo of the Benson Preamp ($249), The CBA Condor ($349), a modified Fuzzface (many good ones are over $200), plus so much more. If you just add up the cost of the "pedals" it contains, that is already pushing or exceeding $749. If you add the number of onboard faves it can store, motorized faders, and all of the additional functionality it packs, Joel could have rightfully priced this thing over $1,000 USD. Is it expensive, yes it is. Is it justifiable, yes it is. Is it worth it, depends on the person using it obviously.

Just for anyone who thinks this is overpriced, here's a price breakdown... Benson Preamp: $250 Ibanez TS-9 or 808: $100-$180 Wah Pedal: $100 Dunlop Fuzz Face: $120-$150 So all together you could spend $570-$680 to get four pedals, or get one unit that can accomplish all of the above with savable presets for $750. Sounds worth it to me. This will also save your audio fidelity due to using less patch cables. Great work, Chase Bliss. Great demonstration, Paul.

1. Why bother with a preamp pedal of any kind if you are already playing through a guitar amp anyway like 99.9% of all electric guitarists? 2. Tube Screamers are a waste of money at any price, SRV-worshippers be damned. I think and have always thought Tube Screamers sound like crap and can be outclassed by a number of other overdrive pedals for the same price. 3. An authentic wah-wah pedal sounds way more dramatic that what the gadget in this video does: it's too subtle of an effect especially for live jamming with a band. So, an actual wah pedal would be a worthy investment if you really must. 4. As for fuzz pedals, they are very overrated poop boxes if you ask me. I have two Behringers for bass: a BXL 450A amp, and a BOD400 Bass Overdrive pedal both of which were below the $120-$150 price range combined, and both of which can produce classic fuzz tones for guitar. The pedals I use are actual effects, not "tone shapers." Tone should be accomplished simply with one's amp, one's guitar, and one's playing technique- fancy that!

I agree that if you look at it that way, it's probably not as expensive as it might look. It's just a high number, but it comes with so many options. And just imagine in 1, 2 or 3 years... I'm sure more pedals like this will come out in the future, and the price of this one would probably drop as well. All new and innovative products are expensive. It could also sell on the used market way cheaper in about half a year or a year's time.

I love this concept! Arguably, I would think another reason for the high price tag is that it seems like it could replace pedals/make several pedals obsolete. If a player has this, it can be their wah pedal, their volume pedal, their fuzz pedal, their boost, and more. Definitely seems like a way of the future. I see a lot of people commenting about the price tag on this thing.. but really 750 isnt that bad when you consider all that this thing does... think of how many pedals it could replace...I mean i could probably get rid of half my pedal board if I added this thing... which would be great for a gigging musician(which im not i just love pedals) my current pedal board weighs a ton. But really think about it ... I bet this thing has the sounds of at least 6-7 drive pedals in it ... most of my drive pedals were between 160-200 a piece.. and you get the motorized faders and all the other cool functions.... i kinda feel like this thing is a great value when you consider all of that.

The pedal of the future is probably a stretch, it’s basically just a DAW controller on the floor. It’s pretty cool though. It’s fundamentally too expensive just due to expensive components to become mainstream enough to be the future me thinks, it can be done with different technology to bring the cost down and quite a few companies have already been doing that for awhile. I like that’s is mixed digital and analog.

I might buy a Neil Young record, but I'd never consider his "Pono" music player. I am very, very impressed, especially that fuzz tone. It's like many high-quality pedals in one unit, but at this price point you could get a multi-effects unit with a built-in expression pedal and get 90% of what this pedal offers plus a plethora of other features.

Before you mentioned the price, I was thinking it would cost about $500, and even that's more than I would be willing to spend. For $750, I could get a used Deluxe Reverb RI, and keep the multi-effects unit I'm already happy with. No motorized faders, but my patches save and recall just the same. It's a clever gadget, but really, take that one gimmick away, and what else about that pedal is ground-breaking?

The argument that you could buy other equipment works with any product. I mean, of course that's true. I think what Chase Bliss does better than other makers is digital control of analog circuits. Take away the motors and that still is true, you're going through a full analog path, not chips. Now...that may mean something to you or not. I love my Strymon Riverside and it certainly is 90% digital. Now if you asked me if this unit was more innovative than say, the Chase Bliss Brothers pedal that could be a fun argument.

Give me one good sounding midi controlled overdrive pedal on the market? There isnt. People (like me) with pedalswitchers can use midi control. If this does sound great I can remove 3-4 overdrive pedals and get this instead. More tone control is good for studio and live performance. Less weight is great for traveling. Also if removing overdrive pedals less powersupplys are needed. Less money, less weight, less room on the pedalboard, less room for power errors.

I am an analog fanatic. I hate having to do the pedal dance though. I have tipped my toe in the digital environment many time (line 6, johnson, fender, axe FX...), but it never seams to sound right to me. I fell in love with the BOSS ES-8 and this piece of equipment would be an outstanding addition to a pedal board for people like me. Analog sound and midi flexibility! It is well worth the price in my opinion.

It's a "neat" pedal, and it sounds fine. I personally don't like the design. It would be way too easy to hit the sliders with your foot. Also, in my experience, big sliders like that tend to get dirty. While your video says that the motor section doesn't have to work for the preset to be recalled, I still just see this as something that's going to eventually fail. (maybe I'm just old.) Finally, I love the expression pedal options, but my kemper already does that for me. Considering this one pedal is 2/3 the cost of a used Kemper, it seems like a bad investment to me.

It really depends on the situation. I'm using a G2 (pedalswitcher), pedalboard with pedalraisers and a one channel clean amp. I've got 5 overdrives on my board. With this pedal I can replace 3-4 overdrives and can control it with midi, no stepping on the button. Smaller pedalboard = less weight. Also gain staging without having different colloring is the way to go. But I'm not happy with the sound so far. Its a bit muddy, lacking clarity and dynamic, while he playing a Hook (3000 dollar) amp. Waiting for more demo's before buying..

Definitely a cool device and I wish I could afford one! It seriously does the job of 2-3 overdrive pedals on a board and then some!
