I've had a few comments on my other videos asking for demos of other keys and generally more information about the Seydel Low Tone Harmonicas. Here's my take on them. www.paulgillingsharmonica.com

After watching you... yeah Im going for the Low F !!! (got the Low C already) ... Thanks Paul !!!

Thanks for another great video! I will be honest, I see why the Thunderbird is more expensive now. The Seydels use weights as opposed to a specialized Low Tone profile, while the Thunderbirds use their own reed profile (meaning the weight is spread more evenly throughout the reed) But, I know Seydel are no fools and must have done so for a reaoson. I wonder what is the reasoning behind their method. Having said that I did go ahead and purchase several of these just because of the steel reeds and 20GBP lower cost vs a Thunderbird (and your videos! thanks again - i wouoldn't have bought them without your videos)

They probably did it to cut down on costs lol

Just gotta make a huge cavity inside your mouth. Just like when trying to sing in a low key or create a low vocal sound. I shall do a video! 😎👍

Try with a backing track - makes it much easier than just trying it "dry". Great introduction Paul!

what do you think of the key of Bb? I found a Seydal Non'Slider in the key of Bb now for a better price.. it seems closer to the human voice with the lower key.. but am new to playing chromatic .. Everyone tells me I have to choose the key of C... - what do you think of playing mostly solo in the key of Bb on a Seydal Non-Slider or in general about playing on one made in the key of Bb? thanks!
@PaulGillings Жыл бұрын
Bb is a good mid-range harp, I prefer it to the C in terms of range. Horses for courses as always, enjoy and thanks for watching!

So as a beginner that’s wants to play more jazz modern jazz that is and r&r songs which key would you recommend? Thanks
@PaulGillings9 ай бұрын
For modern jazz a chromatic harmonica would also be a good place to start (the ones with the button on the end) so you have access to the full range of notes straight away. For the future I'd go for either a standard tuning (as opposed to the low tunings) and get into some overbends. I hope that helps and thanks for watching!

Very interesting. Seydel (mine; SSS in G) sounds beautiful and very comfortable. Then I got hold of a DeBell in G. Wow! 👋😎🎵

Which low key would you recommend as a first low-tuned harp. I’m proficient on standard keys, but this has motivated me to try some low keys.
@Tommy-mv8cj Жыл бұрын
I would recommend key of C -- it's mid range and I have a type of low C Honer no longer made where it has four extra holes at low end of the harp that are an octave lower which achieves the low harp result at the low end. A fav of mine my audiences also like.

Or select one that matches your vocal range for using with songs in the key you sing best in...

I really want a low E harp (I need it for “Please Please Me”, plus the sound is wonderful) but my goodness! them things ain’t cheap lol. The Seydel 1847 Classic Low is about 100 USD!
@PaulGillings Жыл бұрын
Yeah professional harmonicas can be expensive, but at least we aren't guitarists paying hundreds or even thousands for each instrument! I personally think it's all relative. I'm glad you like the sound, keep harping!
