Kudos to you Paul for using the Merkur Futur on setting 6 with a Feather. I've got a feather in my Merkur Futur right now but only on setting 3. Maybe if I'm feeling brave tomorrow morning I'll crank it up to setting 6/ EEEKK! Huge thanks to Mrs. H for the flowers. A few roses in there - Simply gorgeous. I've had some good shaves this week, thank you for asking, and a nice straight shave as my Sunday shave. And now, I'm about to sit down with Mrs. S to our Sunday roast - slow cooked lamb (6 hours), roast potatoes, beetroot and parsnips (all done in duck fat) with some broccoli and carrots. Bloody marvelous. See you on Wednesday

Paul, glad you mentioned not going against the growth if you suffer from ingrowing hairs. This was my downfall early in shaving and now do with and across the growth as i shave daily. I once heard a person explain the shaving against the growth was like a pinecone one direction running your hand down the pinecone will be like beard growth direction but going the other way tends to cause problems as this is not naturally the way hair grows and can cause the ingrowing hairs. I settle for 3 passes but everytime i do against the growth i get painful ingrowers so i personally steer clear of this. Great flowers as always from Mrs H

nicely done paul you sure know your way around the merkur futur. most gents i've spoken to about it said not to bother with it. it's wildly aggressive. a tip for the proraso white soap, i decided one day to simply bloom croaps as well. never creams obviously but blooming a croap makes it all easier. even though they're easier to load. why not make it even easier? so i started that and got amazing results. this proraso white really benefits from a minute or two of hot water. something to try i suppose. i hope that makes it even better for you.

It is aggressive, but not impossible to enjoy, and thank you, a really good tip about the soap....all the best...Paul.

Hi Paul I bought one of these about a year ago, bathroom was like a bloodbath, Ps I take a Blood thinner, tried again 3 months later, not much better. Watched this video tried it using your glide technique and I can honestly say that with 3 passes on number 4 has become the best shave i've ever had. I used a Voshkod blade but i'm pretty sure I could use a Feather now. Its now my number one. Ps It was going on Ebay, but not now. Great advice and the flowers were out of this world, give Mrs H a pat on the back.

How does the Proraso soap perform for you without using the pre-shave, Paul? I just purchased the Proraso Green soap, and I’m a bit letdown by the level of residual slickness.
@PaulHFilms4 жыл бұрын
It performs well enough for me, slickness is good I find, but that could be down to the water maybe, if you ever want to test a soap to see if it's your water, try using bottled water, just to see ,could make a difference. Thanks .

Of course I am only talking about the Proraso stuff as I would not dare using a Futur on setting 6 with a feather! ^^
@Stoeff19878 жыл бұрын
I just finished watching the video. In my opinion, you could have used some more water in each pass. I know you tend to build very dry lather but with the Proraso being not very slick compared to other soaps, a good amount of water guarantees for a good glide - at least for me. I had to adjust as well but no I can shave against the growth on my neck and my mustache area as well without cutting myself. With the Futur it can be different of course, I prefer the EJ DE89.

So happy that the temperatures are finally dropping around here. It was 19C here this morning. I think I've become addicted to the Feather blades. They perform wonderfully in my Fatip Grande. I started making my lathers slightly wetter for improved slickness and found that this made the Feather blades extremely smooth, even on the first use. I still hate that they cost twice as much as some blades (like Astra SPs) but I do feel that they're some of the best DE blades on the market. I enjoy shaving at night because I have the cool morning breeze creeping in from the window and no one is in a rush to go anywhere. So I can take my time and clean up however slowly I want to lol.

Hi Paul...after being inspired by your videos, and having always used Gillette disposables, I've decided to embark on an old-school double-edge shaving regimen. Based on one of your xlnt videos (not this one) I ordered a Merkur Futur, which happily arrived yesterday. I also ordered a tub of T. of Old Bond St. Eton Col. shave cream. Next on my list is a decent shave brush, along with some pre and after shave items. However, now that I'm admittedly overwhelmed by the endless choices of pre-shave and aftershave balms and liquids, would you be so kind as to make some suggestions? As an amateur about to embark on the art of DE shaving, and my first ever DE shave, I'm completely wide open to your expert guidance and suggestions. Thanks so very much! -Mark
@PaulHFilms7 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, and welcome to the world of Wet Shaving, one I would highly suggest is the Nivea Originals aftershave balm, always works nicely for me, and has a scent which (for me) goes well with most aftershaves etc......another very good aftershave balm/ cream is Arko Classic.....quite thick, but once rubbed in , is amazing......all the best Mark, and hope you have many great shaves ahead......Paul.
@Flametopology7 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, thanks for the advice! Will surely check out the Nivea. In fact, I was reading some really good things about the Nivea Originals balm. Proraso is another one that looks pretty good too and I'm thinking I probably can't go wrong using. Well my friend...I'm a few hours from having my first ever DE wetshave tonight with the new Merkur Futur I just got. Hopefully I won't slash myself up too badly. Wish me luck! ;-) Cheers buddy!

Great video Paul, the proraso white is very good although I have only got the cream in a tube, what a beast of a razor, I'm afraid my skin will only tolerate setting 1 or 2, I have tried setting 4 which was too much, I must admit I haven't tried No 4 for the first 2 passes and reduce it to No 2 for the last pass which might work better. - All the best Mark.

Good shave and lovely flowers. I used Proraso white this morning myself. Agree that the scent is not the greatest (love the sandalwood scent, but Proraso red is not the most protective for me), but it is an excellent croap. Hi Paul... Enjoyed the video as always! I like the scent of Proraso White, but I noticed if it sits a while in the tub, it develops a weird/not so pleasant smell... not sure what it is that causes this... but fortunately it fades away once exposed to air/the lid is off or when lathered up. I dont know if I've ever had that aggressive of a shave... I do use my Muhle R41 but most times I prefer an Astra blade... I get great shaves (BBS and irritation free) with it, but the Futur on 6 appears more aggressive than that. Hope you have a great week and certainly look forward to Wednesday's video!! Thanks

With my feather, almost always have irritations and nicks, not on the first, but definitely on the second pass and third pass. Be afraid of doing ATG with it, but they are good blades and never tug the stubble. Nice shave paul! I've highly though of getting a Futur or a Progress
@borbetomagus8 жыл бұрын
You might want to ask Paul if the Futur is more aggressive than the Progress. I think I have read that the Futur on setting 1 is more aggressive than the Progress on setting 5+, but you need that assessment confirmed by those who have used both razors. I only have the Progress (as I didn't want such a wide razor like the Futur) and find it very comfortable, even at the most aggressive settings. You also might want to be on the lookout for the Barbaros-Rocnel stainless steel adjustable razor, which appears to borrow the adjust-ability features of the Merkur Progress. Unfortunately, it probably won't be as affordable as the Merkur razors. Also have a look at the Rockwell 6S adjustable stainless steel razor -- affordable, but not as easily adjusted. www.barbarosrazors.com/ rockwellrazors.com
@icalexander8 жыл бұрын
oh I know all of those. I already own 2 gillette adjustables I just like having different stuff and figure a Merkur adjustable would be the next thing to get. I've thought abought a 6S too. I tend to run my adjustables around setting 6 or so
@borbetomagus8 жыл бұрын
Rockwell is also coming out with another adjustable -- The Model T -- rockwellrazors.com/products/rockwell-model-t This is (currently) at the same price as the 6S (but may increase once released), but is more easily adjusted. I'd be interested in this, but I already have enough razors!

Considering it's a Futur on setting 6 with a Feather, the few above the upper lip are excused. I would need quite a few dabs on he neck with the old styptic pencil followed by some Clubman Talc and Osage Rub! I'm not sure how you shave the sides of your jaw so easily, but with the 10 - 15 buffs I need on each side there during my touch up pass (my beard is quite coarse), this combination might have set a record for nicks and cuts! Recent reviews mention that the new formulation of the Proraso Green Tea and Oatmeal White Aftershave balm also contains witch hazel, so this would be the 2nd straight shave you loaded up on witch hazel! It definitely can't hurt, but I usually avoid the Thayers when I know the lotion or balm contains witch hazel. I'll even skip the balm if the aftershave lotion (like Lucky Tiger) contains witch hazel. Some on the forums add witch hazel to their aftershave lotion for the all in one treatment. As usual, interesting video and the flowers from Mrs. H are a beautiful assortment.

After six years of using the Futur from 3 to 6 I went down to 0.5 to find out I get the same excellent shave! No wonder, even at 0.5 the blade gap is bigger than on other razors.

Yikes Paul, A Futur on six with a Feather. You should have had the emergency services on standby in case you lopped off your head. One of the best blades I have found for the Futur - or any aggressive razor - is the BiC Chrome Platinum blade. Smooth, very sharp. It works a dream in aggressive razors, less so in milder ones.

Feeling brave David...lol....thanks mate.

David Quinton I use these BIC blades for more than one year. They are really good... BUT...with no pressure

Leandro Souza Yeah, put any pressure and you'll feel the pain instantly. I love this blade in my ATT H1. Man what a shave.

Congrats on breaking 7,000 Subscribers!! Well earned and deserved. By the way, I'm guessing you will bleed less in your next straight razor shave. :-) I got my new Boker King Cutter straight razor in the mail today and it looks beautiful. I look forward to using it for my first straight shave. Wish me luck! Cheers, Mark

No "Middle Ground" from the Mildest to the Most Aggressive and still you lived to tell the tale! ;-) But I wonder if you have ever considered(as an experiment) switching from whatever aggressive razor you might have started with to a milder razor just for the moustache area? I've seen that done in at least one "Instructional Tutorial" and mentioned by wet shavers in others. It would possibly eliminate the over shave weepers or perhaps train your muscle memory to develop a lighter touch in that location when using an aggressive razor...Just wondering...

Good idea that...I know some people change razors for each pass too, and if it works....fantastic....plus you get to use several razors in one shave...great isn't it...all the best...Paul.

Just bought the white Proraso tub, I hope it is slick and protective. I think I have the new formulation. My tub is kinda different from the outside. www.westcoastshaving.com/resize/shared/images/product/proraso-shaving-cream-soap-green-tea-oat-150g-tub/sc-pro-010.jpg?bw=1000&bh=1000

when I first started de shaving I would watch your videos and back in the day you used to use the future all the time as one of your favorites. Anyways I bought one when I first started and that's what I learned on and I hated it so much I even told my wife I can't believe Paul uses this thing it's horrible as I was shaving my fave off. Anyways long story short it is by far my best de shaver I own next to my slim twist. I absolutely love the future.

The Futur seems to be a shock at first, but after time you sort of (as you have) get used to it's unique-ness...and make it part of the family then...lol....glad you love it now...all the best Jason.

Been having a rough week my fiancé has left on a Disney cruise which is very exciting but that means I'm home alone and not able to talk with her. You don't realize how lonely and sad life is with out your significant other until you can see or talk with them. Her parents surprised her with this trip and its going to be her last trip with her family before we get married. So to say the least it's been an emotional week being alone yet being happy and excited for her being able to share these memories one last time as a Stephens. Hope everyone's week is well and I'm looking forward to Wednesday's shave as well to keep me entertained and company.

Proraso is a big s....t! I threw it into the garbage bin!! Horrible sent, no protection, no pleasure at all! I do prefer Phoenix accoutrements CaD soaps, or Mickey lee ones!

Futur on 6! Back to the old days Paul. Love my futur but only use it on 6 very rarely as I find it almost too aggressive. Have a lovely Sunday dinner and see you on Wednesday. All the best Gus.
