Very nice shave Paul. Was driven out of bed at 2a.m. from the old arthritis flaring up so it was great to have your video and Mrs. H's lovely flowers for company, thank you both! I've been watching "Hidden Houses" on Plex while walking on the treadmill in the mornings. Love the Welsh countryside and the history! I don't know why the BBC don't pick you up to do these though for your walks and chats are much better than the presenter they have. Mrs. W and my granddaughter planted pepper seeds in pots yesterday so another gardening season begins. Hope you have a relaxing Sunday! Take care, Ossie P.S. Noticed that tiny light floating around twice, it don't move like lint.

I have completed my experiment with the *Arko Shave Stick* (_You had mentioned that you would be interested in the results_). It was a wonderful lathering shave stick from start to finish and lasted for *85 shaves*. _I was definitely not stingy with it_. Others may get even more shaves out of it but that is what it did for me. YMMV. *_I’ll always have an Arko SS in my shave den._*

Very nice shave, Paul. I've been testing out a few new creams this week, the Body Shop maca root and the Lucky Tiger cream. Both are quite good. For me, I would say that, on balance, I prefer the twist to open Gillettes to the Tech, but many people have great results with them. Cheers, and hope the Hobgoblin Ale and lashings of gravy provided the proper end to your weekend.

Thanks for this video. I use the identical razor I got from my Dad, he used it for over 60 years. Definitely got to watch that sharp overhang though!

I recently purchased a "No Name" vintage razor with an open comb. I am not sure if it's some version of the Gillette Tech but I received a shave that was virtually identical to yours in terms of extreme mildness but with the blade( a Sputnik)that mowed down the whiskers like a beast. In short, I understand completely where you're coming from.... ;-)

Used my Muhle Aloe Vera too today with the only difference that I prefer cream. New Muhle blade in Muhle R 89 Grande, Muhle Rytmo synthetic brush, laddered the cream right on my face, no preshave oil or anything. Closed the pores afterwards with Muhle alum and Muhle Aloe Vera aftershave. Fantastic experience, no burns, no irritation, went down a treat :). P.S.: No Muhle advertising meant, I just try their products now :) P.P.S.: hope everyone else had a great shave too and going to have a great Sunday :)

New subscriber here. Great shave Paul. The Tech does provide a "mild" shave (some may say too mild), but I find I have to be mindful of its extremely sharp corners and blade overhang.

Excellent shave Paul, are those blades sometimes referred to as "Persona Lab Blues" ?
@shave-a-thon34158 жыл бұрын
Those are the Personna Lab Blues with a special coating for hospital use. atblades.com/products/double-edge/surgical-prep-blade-3/ Accutec purchased the Personna/Gem line from Energizer a few years ago and their descriptions are lacking. Note the line of regular double edge blade descriptions: atblades.com/product-category/double-edge/ There's a number of different catalogue #'s and two packaged ones, but with little description. Some don't even mention they're stainless steel. See page 3 of their catalogue has the med preps: atblades.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/AccuTec-catalog-Personna-Medical-Blades-2017.pdf You'll find all their other blades on page 21 here: atblades.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/AccuTec-catalog-Personna-Specialty-Blades-2016.pdf

Hey Paul, nice video as always! Do you own any other aloe vera soaps you can compare this one to? I personally have the Haslinger aloe vera which is kind of the referece for me, as it is a really wonderful soap and it is so inexpensive! Just a few days ago I tried the Edwin Jagger aloe soap and compared to the Haslinger which is very natural and I would guess unscented, the EJ has a really nice, classic scent. Unfortunately it let me down performance/protection wise even though I was on my razor/blade "feel good combination".
@shave-a-thon34158 жыл бұрын
Edwin Jagger sandalwood soap was the first soap I ever used for my first DE shave. I had about 8 cuts, most of which were due to excess pressure and my technique. I've used the soap numerous times and agree that it's protection is lacking and it's not the easiest to lather. Today I had a pretty good shave with it but I think Williams Mug Soap is just as good in the protection area. I wouldn't mind a cologne with the scent of the Edwin Jagger sandalwood, though.
@shave-a-thon34158 жыл бұрын
Have you tried Mitchell's Wool Fat? That one leaves the face feeling great. Another favorite of mine is Tabac.
@PaulHFilms8 жыл бұрын
That is a shame the performance wasn't there in the shave, I only have this Aloe Vera shaving soap, I do have other soaps with Aloe Vera added with other ingredients shall we say, but nothing on it's own like this, hope to get more though, as I enjoy the scent....all the best...Paul.

I was thinking the same thing and wondering if that's the brush you mentioned where the handle could be opened.
@stephenmkeer8 жыл бұрын
Yes,I have the red handled one and the coloured part pops off and you can add any kind of weight to it (I fill it with water),and it makes the brush feel a little heavier.I don't use mine anymore as the handle is too small to get a comfortable grip.

Hi Paul from South Wales. I am always wary when shaving around the nose and mouth. I thought that it's best to wet the face between passes or am I wrong.
@johnjames2188 жыл бұрын
i always like to wet my face on each pass
@PaulHFilms8 жыл бұрын
Best way to be , wary....and very good idea to wet the face between passes yes, I don't as I don't need too. But all helps the skin and shave. Cheers Stephen.
@shave-a-thon34158 жыл бұрын
It also helps to refresh the soap on the brush. I leave the face wet between passes without drying off. The soap dries out and thickens a bit in the bowl or on the brush, so even if you do what I do, you'll still get the pasty lather that Paul likes, but not the kind of post shave enjoyment he sees here: i.imgur.com/KBe0hf5.jpg

@PaulHFilms7 жыл бұрын
Yes it is.
@Grotto6667 жыл бұрын
thank you for the fast reply:) I really want to buy a vintage razor but I am a bit put off by some things I read about brass and aluminium being bad for your skin and the like. What I like about the gillette razors, for example, is that you don't have problems with aligning the blade and with butterfly type of razors the doors open and close in unison not like the modern butterfly razors. And those razors are old like 60 years at least.
@PaulHFilms7 жыл бұрын
Your welcome, yes the old Gillette razors were certainly made to last...and work well even today.
