It was also handed down that Joe Coleman was carried to the gallows from jail in a wheel barrow and a group of musicians struck up this impromptu tune as he passed by. They used to sing it "Old Joe Coleman killed his wife (3X), With a great big butcher, great big butcher knife."

an interesting side comment is that most of the fiddlers around that area played a different tune by that name and with the whole story. It was a version of what is often know as Green Willis, but they played it in jig time!
