It would be a good idea to put a skylight in at the back above the bed and dining area if you haven't already thought of it. We find the most amount of light comes down from above. It will be very dark at the back otherwise.
@Triumph_Explorer3 жыл бұрын
Not just the light it’s good ventilation too 👍🏼

I work in construction and i've done A LOT of insulation. If it isn't too late, pull some of that plastic off and fix the insulation. You don't want insulation with spaces between batts and you don't want bunched up insulation. Bunched up insulation doesn't do it's job properly. it needs to be fluffy. Fluffy not stuff is the motto i tell people who are just starting insulation.
@barredfrompup6 ай бұрын
Hi mate, just about to start my van. Could you expand on what you just said a little please? What do you mean gaps in the bat's? Also is that plastic vapour barrier necessary?
@RvWorldTraveller6 ай бұрын
@@barredfrompup when you are putting your insulation up you don't want any space in between you batt insulation. you want them completely touching, no gaps. if there is any spots where you insulation has space or gaps the heat or cold has a place to travel freely and you will get hot / cold spots then condensation. unless you do a very very good job with the plastic vapour barrier it will be useless. if you haven't done a perfect job in your insulation, the plastic vapour barrier will hold in the condensation and then you will literally have puddles in you wall. the plastic isn't necessary, but if i didn't use spray foam i would still use it.

@stevebutler71563 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul I went down a similar route, but smaller scale. A Transit connect. Took me ages. Sound deadened first, then a layer of reflectix insulation, then the Diall plastic bottle like you used (you must let it expand before use so it fluffs up) then another layer of reflectix. Everything taped and sealed with foil tape. Most importantly I used Trim Fix high temp glue. You will be running the risk in the summer of everything coming away as that glue melts. Top tip for fitting the batons to roof struts, pre drill pilot holes, get Bosch blue tip BandQ sell them beware the insulation likes to fight back. You need a roof vent for definitely, otherwise everywhere will be dripping in the morning. Enjoy the experience but please do it right. ATB Pal 👍

I applaud you on your work. Having lived in Canada for decades and U.K. for decades.I see here in the U.K. moisture is a real problem 365 days a year.I have been watching van life and motor home life on KZbin. The main issue i see is mould. From dampness and condensation.In North America this doesn’t happen like U.K.. it’s much dryer air.

Apart from the adventures you will both have It will be brilliant for your channel in the future.. I can see you utilising the van even when pitching tents, trying out equipment and making videos as it will be a home from home and will lead to more..

It’s coming on nicely and I look forward to each update video. I think you might regret not fitting a decent thermostatically controlled fan in the roof while you had chance. It makes a huge difference when you get back to the van on a hot day or during the night when it’s too warm to sleep.
@garylewis38153 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul the progress on the camper van build looking good 👍. As many others have commented you should consider a fan/ventilator in the roof to remove cooking smells and prevent build up of condensation ! Jo's done a great scaled mock up for the interior of the van..👍 Years of watching of Blue Peter..!!!😁😉🌞

You need a roof vent, condensation is a killer in a van, mould where you cant see it, like under mattresses.
@vamboroolz16123 жыл бұрын
Scanned down the comments just to see if anyone mentioned a vent. You beat me to it😉. I would definitely put in a roof vent and a skylight but would place them away from the solar roof panels,( assuming they are going in to recharge the inverter batteries?). Not sure of Paul’s overall design, but I assume he is going for a decent inverter. I would have put in some trunking for running future electrics too.
@mikehurley50523 жыл бұрын
@@justjonoutdoors A Maxfan i believe. You can draw air in and out.
@Neilukuk3 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by killer? Can it kill you or is it bad for the van? Thanks
@vamboroolz16123 жыл бұрын
@@Neilukuk I would assume he means the spores can give you severe health problems. If so, he is correct. You need good ventilation in a small enclosed space like a van, especially a heated small enclosed space.
