Hi Paul Big fan of your wild camping videos. Been following your progress on your new van. Looking at your video today on installing the tongue and groove cladding. If I could offer you a little advice. I'm a qualified carpenter. The way your doing is perfectly acceptable but you are going to be left with hundreds of screw heads visible. Also moisture could get in through here, rust your screws etc. The proper way is to pin the bottom first piece. With just one pin close to the bottom as possible into the stud behind then pin on the top on the tongue edge. So when you slot your next piece onto it, it covers the pin. A nail gun is favoured for this but perfectly possible with standard stainless steel pins and a panel hammer and punch. Then you repeat the process of pinning the next piece in the same way. When your finished all your fixings are hidden.

Good job you two. Any more scribing to do, cut a small baton the size of the gap, ie 6 and a half. then run it round the area to scribe with pencil at top. Perfect shape every time. Hope that makes sense.🚌👍

Vinyl pores are required. Otherwise, the moisture caused by condensation will not dry out and mold may form, resulting in a foul odor. So, the insulation materials that come out these days have a lot of small pores.

Mr Messner, I have a question. Ages ago I was reading about how back in the 1970's it was common for townsfolk in the UK to pay a farmer or owner of a tract of land for permission to camp on their property. Is this still a thing? Was it ever a thing? Do you think it would be possible for you to find a beautiful piece of private property, talk to the owners, and pay for permission to camp there? If it worked it seems like it would be a wonderful way to camp in new areas with zero worry of being chased off, and the property owner would get to make some money as well.

Very well done, guys! You two are an awesome duo I love it :D but whens Jo not drinking tea? :P incidentally I've always drank coffee, now as of the last week I've only drank tea, it seems to change every half a year to a year haha. I think you've said, impact drivers are a god send but also counter sinks are too. Yorkshire trading sells them but really doesn't last, it's not good. For small holes I found counter sinks joined to drill bits, they're amazing! It saves the swap between drill bit to counter sink to Phillips :D great job on scribing the wheel well and filling the window cill

You are doing a good job there Paul. A couple of pointers if you are interested, when scribing if you either use compasses or an off cut it saves all the continuous marking every 50 mil or so as you can scribe a continuous line with pencil and off cut. Also, bizarrely, it’s best not to scribe to tight to a shape if you don’t need to. The van will twist slightly when you drive and a tight timber scribe can become a bloody nightmare as a squeak that you no longer have access to. The screwing in the lining board, you could use metal cups to give the screws a professional finish or use clips so you don’t see the fixings, ( there will be a lot of screws in the walls and ceiling). The way you are working is much the same as the way a professional does so you are on the right tracks. Main thing is to continually think about the finish and each step that needs done. I say this as a lifelong carpenter and certainly not as condescending. Looks good.

The easiest way to scribe any kind of an unusual profile is to use a drafting “compass” with a pencil point that locks and set it for the gap distance between the two boards and just run it along the profile distance. No measuring the gap required!! Easy peasy!!!! And I prevent the wood splitting by predrilling a smaller pilot hole and countersinking for the screw head before inserting the actual screw!! Even predrill the metal as well!!!

When you took out the bulk head I assumed you were installing swivel seats. But now it looks like you are putting cupboards behind the seats. If this is the case why didn't you just leave the bulkhead in? Having the bulkhead really reduces the noise inside the van when travelling. Plus you don't need to blind the windscreen, driver and passenger windows for sleeping.

You do it your way, that said it's a good job you live in Sheffield (i think) not Manchester, the moisture control/insulation you've got going there shouldn't get manky for couple of years in Sheffield. Ps thick rope as a trim works well, looks like you're going for a bit of a navel feel, but easy to Nail on and hides all sorts of screw ups
