In this video, Paulo Frade demonstrates the layered painting process that many Baroque masters used.
The process consists of a monochrome base paint called underpainting that, after drying, will receive the layers of color.
With the application of transparent, semitransparent and opaque paintings, Frade performs the velatures, coloring and finishing the portrait.
Colors used in underpainting:
Titanium white, Raw Umber and Burnt Siena.
Colors used in velvet:
Titanium White, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red, Alizarim Crinson, Ultramarine Blue and Black.
