Awesome video and a lot of good information. I would only recommend bleeding the oil through the blue hose that you have attached to the oil pump and the suction king valve. When you pressurized the hose (@ 17:00) with oil you still have air trapped in hose. Then if you when you crack that low loss, you add air to the system.

Thank you for this great video! I have one question which is do we have to perform a vacuum on the compressor before back setting the king valves and allow the refrigerant to get into the compressor ? Thanks again!

You say not to pressure test beyond 50psi. Let’s say the unit has R404a and is sitting unplugged in a room that’s 80degrees, the high and low side would be 173psi.
@paulohvac

The company does not make semihermetic compressors for R410a. These compressors are only for R 22 ,R134a, and R 404 a.

@@paulohvacI didn’t say R410a, that is used in A/C. Even if it was R22 at 80degrees, that’s still 143psi. I liked your video, I’m just curious about that part of it.

But if I just isolate the compressor, and if the system still has Freon in it. And when I add oil to it, aren’t am I over adding i, because the Freon that’s still in the system also has some oil ? Unless if I recover the whole system, and change the system with new refrigerant

So on a sealed Compressor, After draining the old Oil out, Wouldn't I have to reinstall compressor then pull Vacuum then add the New Oil ?

Technical not king valves. They are service valves. King valves are on the outlet of the receiver.

Plastic cap is not there to stop leaks, my dear friend. It is to protect stem from elements! Brass nut on stem is for stop leaks. It should be losen and tighten at any valve stem manipulation!

Just a question,let's presume that we have a full charge system on which we need to change oil,after front seating both suction and discharge king valves,and recovering the gas I charge gas N2 to get the oil out of the compressor how do I confirm my valves are holding my fear is that the N2 could get into the system if the king valves are not holding.
@paulohvac
@paulohvac 3 жыл бұрын
Very good question this could happen but it's pretty much your call,see how many times those kingvalves are being moved is this an old system if this is a new system if this is an old system where the opening closing the valves too many times, base on my experience I have not run true this problems. Take care ....

Can you use mineral oil, which is what the video shows, to this compressor which uses R404a refrigerant?
@gregoryclemen1870
@gregoryclemen1870 2 жыл бұрын
P.O.E. oil is only compatible with R404A refrigerant. mineral oil will not damage the compressor, however mineral oil will not attach itself to the refrigerant, and you will "LOSE" the oil in the evaporator ( esp. on freezer application). this will cause oil migration/ oil return problems, so the oil level in the compressor will drop to a dangerous point that will cause compressor failure ( no oil in crankcase) if you want to use mineral oil, then you will have to change the refrigerant, that is mineral oil compatible.

sir, I got aircon reciprocating compressor used for spraying paint for hobby...i worry in the long run it will run out of oil...sobefore it happens shall I replace the oil for the same purpose before as aircon compressor or some engine motor oil...newbie here😃

Iam not familiar with air compressor but lubrication is important, if you think it's low in oil, you should add some..

if you have a high concentration of "ACID" in the system , that is caused by high motor temperatures in the compressor, and the oil comes out brown or black( also caused by high moisture in the system) that compressor is going to fail, changing the oil in a compressor that is on its way to becoming a "BURN OUT", you are wasting your time, look at what you have to go through to change oil in a "TIN CAN COMPRESSOR" it is not worth it!!!!, and will result in a callback. not only that you would have to add both liquid/ suction line filter dryers a sight glass with a moisture indicator after the liquid line filter dryer is a big help too!!!

Why do you put the oil into your suction line?
@gregoryclemen1870
@gregoryclemen1870 2 жыл бұрын
you really should not do it that way, the weep hole in the bottom of the suction port is small, and needs time to drain the oil back into the crankcase. that is a great way to break reed valves on restart if oil is still in the suction port!!!

the name tag on the semi- hermetic will tell you what oil is in it (A.B./ mineral/ P.O.E) and the oil charge ( in ounces). if the compressor has a red tag on it, it will not tell you the oil charge, or type of oil( red tags were used from 1958 to 1988), white, blue , and black tags will give you the oil information needed. also that "K" body compressor( air cooled--3/4 H.P. low/ med. temp 230 volt single phase, / charged from the factory with "P.O.E." oil in it) has an oil pump on it , and the oil level should be checked with the compressor in operation!!! ( compressor build date oct. 2001) do you plan on running this compressor on a refrigerant that is mineral oil compatible??????, not only that you have "MIXED" P.O.E. OIL WITH MINERAL OIL IN THE COMPRESSOR!!!!!!!( you did not get all of the oil out of that compressor, to do so would require a complete teardown) this compressor was set up to operate on R404A refrigerant!!!! if you were in my class I would have made you tear that compressor down to get all of the "MIXED" oil out of it !!! ( or take an "F")

Thank you for your comment we normally use mineral oil because it's cheaper, I have a 20 students changing the oil, This compressor we only use it for practicing, the technical has been already covered. Sounds like you already know all this information by the way school's hiring is really hard to get good instructors with experience and willing to teach.

@@paulohvac , thanks for responding back, I did teach hvac-r 15 years ago, and I thought that this compressor was "DONATED", not to be put into operation. I always had my students tear down the semi- hermetic compressors, and put them back together and run them in "LAB", I even had them build "U.L.T." cascade freezers. I also worked at miami university( oxford ohio) where I worked on constant temperature refrigeration equipment, and "U.L.T. freezers", chillers, large hvac systems. it is real interesting that the number 1 failing compressor was the "SCROLL". one time I was called to the food storage building , where the "FREEZER WAREHOUSE" was not holding temp( too warm) "there was 4, 50 H,P. 480 v. 3 ph. scroll compressors operating on R404A refrigerant. well 2 of them failed( locked up) these compressors have oil sight glasses on them and no oil was showing in any of them so I ordered new compressors, I found out that no warehouse in the U. S A. had that compressor. copeland had to build that compressor, it was the largest one they made!!!! I told the food service manager that it would take 2- 3 months to get them in, so he told me to order 4 of them, and do what you need to do so this does not happen again!!. I installed "OIL SEPARATORS" on all of the compressors, then I had to start taking oil out of the compressors(TOO MUCH OIL" I scavenged 5 gallons of excess oil out of each condensing unit. the best / long lasting compressor was the "SEMI-HERMETIC" I rebuilt many of them!!!! have a great day!!!!. if you want to talk "I AM ALL EARS"!!!

Is it possible to add oil through the oil-removing port? If not then would you explain why, please?
@gregoryclemen1870
@gregoryclemen1870 2 жыл бұрын
that is where I always remove/ refill the oil, it is dangerous to add oil to the suction port, the compressor is not designed to pump a liquid, that is a great way to cause reed valve damage if the compressor is going to be returned to service. the weep hole in the bottom of the suction port is small and needs time to drain back into the crankcase!!!!
