First 3 seasons of this was amazing. Gritty, grungy, raw and edgy. I think that in s5 it started to loose its harshness in terms of plots and look. The OG cast had far more racier plots, and topics that jam packed drama into those early seasons.

I think it changed when it went to ABC… it started to be targeted towards kids rather than teens. That and grunge went out of fashion.

@@Markstubation01 👍Sounds pretty much like what happened, mate. From season 5, you can clearly see the tone, approach and everything else change because of the network change. 👍 Lessening the Adult character's screentime and focusing more on a younger looking cast with less edgy characters and poppier, lighter, easier storylines. Again, it worked as a younger audience from a changing pop culture scene drew to it. I liked it, but the characters from the latter seasons didnt have any real impact on me. Especially the last seasons last half. I thought it was bland, ordinary and too lightweight, nuthin' really going on except Drazic's dillemas. He carried that last season. Whereas in the earlier seasons, every character was firey, loud, they got amazing stories, and they had something to say. The acting was better, it was more in yer face. All good in the Hood though. If some people got into the latter years and liked that more, then more power to 'em.👍

@@kylereece1979 Couldn't agree more. S1-S4 had powerful characters, both the students as well as the adults: Rivers, Con, Southgate, Katarina, Yola, Bolton, Jodie, Rose, Matt, Allie, Roberto & Helen.... The music was also fantastic and contributed greatly to the show. After S4 the characters went bland, say except for Drazic and to a lesser extent Dennis. All the others were utterly forgettable. Teachers & parents became boring and non-descript characters. The actors who played Kurt and Ryan were just too old to convincingly play high school students and were cast on their looks instead. Whereas the S1-S4 cast really seemed like a coherent group of friends, they became like loose sand and passersby from S5 and onwards.

@@bosshogg7513 Absolute Spot On. 👍 One of the only reasons fans argue and declare that the latter seasons were better, popular is because they thought Drazic was cool , hot, whatever. Were he in the earlier seasons, he'd have drowned under the force of Rivers and the rest. Seasons 6-7 were allll about Drazic and Anita. Some good plots here and there but it was more aimed at a younger audience. It lacked the drama, grit and appeal of seasons 1-3. It wasnt even set in the gritty, dirtier surroundings of Heartly High anymore. "Heartly Heights" was sunnier, brighter and full of one dimentional characters that came and went like the passing sunny days the show was set under. The OG cast were a tight band of friends who fought , bickered, and there was a constant firey, powder keg of energy with them all the time. The camera followed them , closed in on them, creating realism, tension. It looked like a documentary sometimes, focusing on the Teachers' lives justas much. I get that the Drazic era has its following, and thats cool.👍 But man, seasons 1-3 absolutely Rule.

lol They should make a movie about the entire class with all students in it, im sure Rivers, would team up with Drazic, add Bolton and Dennis, and you got a bunch of bullies together lol

This was like the best ever program! Especially the first few seasons. Awesome characters. I used to watch re-runs all the time.

I just got into HBH seeing it on Netflix for the first time, and Jesus the OG show was underrated asf, I tried looking it up on youtube expecting it to have a massive following but not so much. One of the most realistic and raw shows Ive ever watched.

Um why is the strongest and one who was most dangerous - Nick Poulos not in this. The scene where he knocked out Rivers was one of the best, he was not just a hard hitter and brawler but good boxer.

Never saw this era of HBH. They always show the Drasic era of the show.
