Pigs, they tend to wiggle when they walk The infrastructure rots And the owners hate the jocks With their agents and their dates If the signatures are checked You'll just have to wait And we're counting up the instants that we save Tired nation so depraved From the cheap seats see us Wave to the camera It took a giant ramrod To raze the demon settlement But high-ho silver, ride High-ho silver, ride Take another ride to see me home Listen to me I'm on the stereo stereo Oh my baby baby baby baby babe Gave me malaria hysteria What about the voice of Geddy Lee How did it get so high? I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy? (I know him and he does) And you're my fact-checkin' cuz (Aww) Well focus on the quasar in the mist The Kaiser has a cyst And I'm a blank want list The qualms you have and if they stick They will drown you in a crick In the neck of a woods That was populated by Tired nation on the fly Everybody knows advice That was given out for free Lots of details to discern Lots of details But high-ho silver ride High-ho silver ride Takes another ride to make me Oh, get off the air I'm on the stereo stereo Oh my baby baby baby baby baby babe Gave me malaria hysteria

I love the fact that Bob is basically a Wild Card for what he'll be doing in any given song; from lugging around the band's cash bag (his first job with them), to being their unneeded second drummer, to his random guitar appearance here, to his awesome vocal appearances. He's simultaneously the most and least important member of the band, and the best mascot for any band ever.

This is one of those songs you have to see through the randomness and humour for a while then you start noticing these are really clever guitar parts and smart musicians. Really takes me back to when most of what was played on rock stations was good in the early/mid 90s.. by the late 90s people like me were really disappointed and frustrated with the nickelback and 3 doors down type bands. The cool phase was already phasing out way too fast. I'm so glad I was a teenager for that era.

Jesse Allan Friend Guitar Yup, there was so much good stuff going on and the big bands after 94 were Creed, Limp Bizkit, Korn and a bunch of other whack ass corny fake ass corporate new metal. I remember hearing the first J. Mascis record on the radio in the southern states in 95 thinking I hope this lasts forever.....it didn't. A lot of good music happened in the 90s nobody even knows about. Sad.

Even though I was born way past the golden age of Alt rock, I've always admired the feelings evoked by the bands between the 1990s and 2000s. There's a sort of expression that encapsulates a form of frustration that I find punk rock expresses too angrily, and a resolve to that sort of frustration in song writing.
@Urlocallordandsavior2 жыл бұрын
I think its' more the isosteric expression of rage instead of the directness of heavy metal/hard rock/punk.

@@cutiepiecatloveallanimals6602 With hindsight I'd argue the early-mid 2000s was better than I remember it. Maybe because the stuff that came after that was for the most part pretty bad and rock music was on its last legs in the cultural zeitgeist. Don't get me wrong, there's still great stuff coming out now but it just isn't the same as it used to be.

This song is a follow up to "Cut Your Hair." The singer is letting you know that whatever success his band has had, he wears it lightly. Both the singer and the other guitarist turned 30 when this album was recorded, and they start it off by showing that they are just as brilliant as ever, but in no danger of growing up. If you watch the Conan version with its free-form solo interludes and even more out-there back-up vocals, you will see that they are more serious than ever about just messing around.
@douglasfairmeadow2 жыл бұрын

@@douglasfairmeadowwhat defines success, anyways? they definitely veered away after Crooked Rain, (good, i wouldn't want them to prioritize that radio friendly vision of Cut Your Hair) but they got to play live on multiple tv shows (then and now), had two popular reunion shows. Malkmus has since been able to live well with his solo projects - just to be able to live with the career as 'artist' is a win in my books
