Level tolerance is basically allowance for poor workmanship. This is the variation in longitudinal and cross profile of the road from that shown on the drawing.

But in case-2 when traffic is between 50-150 CVPD what does alternatively 100mm thickness cementitious layer means is it base layer over subbase of 100mm or directly base layer over subgrade without Subbase layer.....similarly in case -3 200mm cementitious layer 2.Also what this cementitious layer made of is it M20 concrete??

1. It means you can either use either 75 mm thick WBM layer over 100 mm of granular material OR a 100 mm thick cementitious granular layer directly on subgrade. 2. Cementitous layer may be of any material like lime-flyash concrete or dry lean cement concrete or any other stabilised layer satisfying the condition of UCS.

Sir CVPD is 10vehicles, but the total gross weight of the vehicle is 50 tonnes(but design wheel load is 5tonnes), and width of the road is 6m, how to design this road. 1. Can we provide the longitudinal joint or not. 2. suggested Spacing of transverse joint 3. Can we provide the dowel bars and tie bars 4. What about expansion joint Please give me the suggestion sir

Since cvpd is just 10 vehicles per day, it should be designed as rural road (IRC SP 62). for a road width of 6 m, take slab size 3x3 and there will be no requirement of longitudinal joint. Transverse joints will be at 3 m. Dowel bars are not required for such a low traffic.

Sir design wheel load is 5tonnes or 50kN for low volume roads but in the above problem 50tonnes gross weight of vehicle. Is there any conversion of vehicle damage factor for rigid pavements of different axle loads. 2. If width of road greater than 4.5m need to provide the longitudinal joint or not sir 3. Mentioned that slab size 3mx3m then it is to provide the longitudinal joint sir

Sir, incase the modulus of rupture of concrete is increased and transverse joint spacing is reduced, this directly reduces the total stress and the design becomes "safe". Can this be done?

The stress equations given in IITRIGID software are for 4.5 m spacing between the transverse joints. The behaviour of slab will change if you change this spacing. Yes, increasing Modulus of Rupture will reduce the thickness of the slab

IRC 58 should not be used to design internal roads of a city. This code is for high volume roads (NH, SH and MDR) only.

@@SatishIITR Thanks sir,,vishveshwariya institute of technology,,NAGPUR,,recommende the same for our city (Akola) internal roads,,,resulting the houses/shops along this roads have gone below the new road by almost 2/3 feet.Sir,a common man hardly builds his home once in his life time,,that too got disturbed by these heighted roads,plus the additional 8/10" height of drain slab.These roads life is 30yrs,,again the riad authorities will increase it height,,hiw shall a common man lift his hard earned home.

@@maheshchaudhari3987 Your concern in quite logical and well founded. IRC 58 is applicable to the roads where daily commercial traffic is more than 450. I do not know the traffic condition on Akola roads, but my understanding is that the internal roads of a city should be designed as per IRC:SP:62

@@SatishIITRpl specify,,, commercial vehicles,,,there is traffic but only 2 wh,,auto,,passenge cars light vehicles,,heavy vehicles are resticted by girders grouted in between pavements,,yet this design adopted. Was it not possible to excavate deep & than acquire tee required thickness,,as to match the previous height of bitumen road,,,which was funded by world bank & of best quality ever seen.

@@maheshchaudhari3987 Any vehicle having laden weight of 3 ton is categorised as commercial vehicle. Bus, truck, mini trucks and mini buses are the examples. I cannot comment on your second point as I have no idea of site conditions.
