When Dr. Marion Gruber started her career at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), she was a “regulator,” that is a scientist who evaluated data and oversaw the licensure process for new products. During this time, she was also tasked with developing guidance that would lead to the safe inclusion of pregnant woman in clinical trials. Since some products must be used by pregnant women, it is important to study them in pregnant women. In this video, Dr. Gruber talks about those efforts related to vaccine trials and how attitudes about maternal vaccination have changed over time.
