Hey jaby, the marathas defeated the mughals and established self rule. This story is based on true events and it spread massive fear among the sultanates. The valley where they were fighting is extremely narrow and the sahyadri monsoons are fatal. They left their shoes and their upper body clothes and this war almost happened during a flood. The biggest story is that the main guy named baji prabhu Deshpande literally refused to die until he heard the canon rounds.

*REestablished self rule. It's importatn to make this disctinction because *all* of the Indian subcontinent had self rule, whether that meant one city to the next or one subculture to the next. Irregardless, foreign occupation was never self rule and the Marathas helped to reestablish self rule not just in present day Maharashtra, but even my homeland of Punjab. Now mostly all the maharashtrains know the story of Shivaji Maharaj and the story of PAWANKHIND so this film is basically for showing how it must have looked like in live action. So because I know what is the story of Pawankhind so it gives me a feeling being proud of being a part of maharashtra and studying it's history and even more proud because of the marathas today we all are having freedom. So maybe if the two of you aren't really relating with it I am sure a you can read a few articles or some books based on it then you might know what is happening here and who is that man who said 'get lost' at the end of it. Baji Prabhu Deshpande was a commander of Maratha Chhatrapati Shivaji I, the founder of the Maratha empire. The legend of Baji Prabhu is linked with an important rear guard battle enabling Shivaji's escape from Panhala fort; he was the hero who sacrificed his life for his king. With only around 500 soldiers he fought the huge enemy army and breathed his last after he was assured that the king had reached the Fort safely. For his bravery and his sacrifice Shivaji Maharaj named the pass as Pavankhind meaning the Sacred pass.

This movie is made within 1.5 million dollars, while 300 released in 2006 was made with 60 million dollars. It's made with very small budget, the strong point of the movie is the story or the history. Thus only reason people loved this movie because history is not yet been shown in such a cinematic manner in a film or series, we only heard stories from our parents, books, novels, theatre acts.

Just a historic note, Maratha warriors are known for their unwavering courage and pride and patriotism. The posing is just to show that sense of pride and patriotism to fight and die for the motherland. Also there are smaller instances where the king is in jungle, the women worrying about their kids, that shows the hurdles but the selling point of the movie being the war, they kind of over sold the war.

You must read the story of Pawankhind, just to understand the context. Why this is an example of raw courage and valor of Baji Prabhu and his 300 Bandal soldiers, who faught for 9 hrs in the narrow passage, till Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj reached the Vishalgad fort. It is said Baji Prabhu suffered more than 40 wounds on his body. Befort confronting the Bijapur army in the passage, they had already walked 40 Kms on foot.

Just quick insight: If you gonna give it a watch...please just go for the acting and story line...please dont hold any expectations for cinematography, editing and especially VFX..or even practical fx...at several instances you really have to lean into let it pass...its a small industry..not that it doesnt have potential to make decently big budget movies its still figuring out itself i guess... Thats it...orelse you would be bummed out and the reaction to it may get spoilt...

Well, this trailer does no justice with how good the movie is honestly. They should have made a trailer, by revealing the plot According to me. Cauz me being marathi, i knew the plot already. But outside India, or infact even outside Maharashtra, not many people know this. For those who dont know, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was being held at Panhala fort by Siddhi Jauhar, and it was necessary for the Maratha empire to get him out. So they plan an escape. And a troop of 500 Maratha soldiers, led my Bajiprabhu Deshpande, held Siddhi's army at a valley (now called Pawankhind) in order to defend the king. They fought non stop for 12 hourss!! With hardly any rest in between.

Maratha Regiment from Indian army, other regiments call them 'Ganapat' ( Lord Ganesha), they are like Vighnharta or painkillers of Indian army. Where is extreme pain, Maratha Regiment goes there. In 1971, on border, Pakistan's best 42 Balloch Regiment was at best position because of strategic location and rocket launcher. They had total advantage against Maratha Regiment. Maratha soldier, Pandurang Tukaram Salunke took responsibility to destroy their rocket launcher alone. He intruded alone inside 42 balloch regiment and destroyed rocket launcher. After Blast of rocket launcher, Maratha regiment attacked. Just watching after that 42 Balloch regiment dropped weapons and ran away. Result? Pandurang Tukaram Salunke who died by bullets of 42 Balloch regiment, rewarded as Mahaveerchakra. Indira Gandhi personally visited his family. About 42 Balloch regiment? Pakistani army gave them reward 'worst regiment in Pakistan army'.

This story is legend. bunch of people who fought against mugals were signed up for a mission which they knew will never come back. From the many battles fought by our king Shivaji Maharaj and the Marathas for Swarajya (self rule), the battle of Pawankhind is one of the most famous one. The battle was fought on a stormy night in a small mountain pass by just 300 men led by Baji Prabhu Deshpande against enemy army of 10,000 or more. Baji fought fiercely that night to protect the King from the enemies and help him reach Vishalgad, Baji sacrificed his life in that battle. The battle is a prominent example of willing to do anything for Swarajya and devotion towards the King. By the sacrifice of Baji Prabhu, that mountain pass (Ghod Khind) was renamed Pawankhind (Holy pass, as the sacrifice of Baji and his companions made the place holi.)

It's basically film of emotions . The baji Prabhu despande and is bandal maratha soldiers fight or about 18 hours just the reason of getting our king for a safe location . The Marathas were around 300 and the adilshahi soldiers were around 10,000 . The fought for 18 hours ( in Marathi that's 11and half prahar) . Baji prabhu despande was hitted by a bullet but still he was fighting and he had nearly 40 wounds on his body . The most interesting thing is he was 55+ years old at that time when he was fighting. When our king (shivaji ) reached the Vishal gad the cannon was blown 5 times . Baji prabhu and all the Marathas were still fighting and after baji heard the voice of the cannon then they smiles and died a great warrior death. This contribution is the most heart touching and most biggest contribution by any one on this earth.....

This story deserves a huge budget to do justice. Each soldier was extremely loyal to the King "Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj" who build an army from scratch to fight against the Muslim invaders.

Watch the movie Jaby, it has that character development aspect that you are talking about. The personal turmoil of the king when he is sending his comrades in the war. The tragedy of family losing their son and husband. The soldiers' determination to go through the hell to protect their family and culture even in the face of despair. And the intelligence of Maratha warriors and king using terrain and various political and martial moves to get through a difficult situation

In movie 300, it is shown that only 300 Sparta remained there when they were attack from 2 direction but that not true, you can google it but in battle of pawankhind only 300 brave maratha fought cruel Mughal for the safety of their king, for the safety of swaraj. Along with Spartans there were 7000 arkedians to fight alongside of them on that narrow path.

I watched this movie in Marathi and loved it. I am not fluent in Marathi as it is not my mother tongue but I like anything that is connected with Shivaji. Watch the movie then you people will change your opinion. Maratha fighters were bad ass when it comes to fighting but are very emotional like any normal human beings.

They were marathas who really didn't care about there personal life , they just wanted to serve chatrapati shivaji maharaj as they know he was the only king how will keep there family safe from the outsiders attack . Till date being maharashtrian we worship our king shivaji maharaj , so one could just imagine the amount of loyalty and selfgiving attitude must be there for him when he was alive .

As someone who isn't familiar with the history, I felt the same as you. I didn't know who I was following from the trailer. Maybe the movie will go into more depths and internal conflict for the characters.

There is difference between 300 and pavankhind.....300 is a movie story and pavankhind is our glorious history...n u talked about hurdles, Marathas defeated then even while having those odds....we were n we are bad ass....
