Best video found about this, has visual explanation, has all the info about the difference between high and low timing, goes into science without being boring and with being understandable, has accent, etc. Thanks man!

I am trying to understand my issue. I have a 4525 530 kv motor running on 12s. After a 5.5 minute heli flight of a 20lb scale helicopter, the motor is uncomfortably hot. It has a Castle Creations 120 amp ESC. The ESC is only using about 51 amps. The ESC had a low timing of 5. I have changed it to high timing to reflect what the manufacturer setting is.

2:30 is incorrect. You've drawn a 'delta' arrangement, but these motors are wired in 'Star' arrangement.

I have been trying to restore an older art-tech brand heli with a brushless mystery-motor. Labeled B20/10t I want to know the KV rating and poles this motor has. How can I find this out? I cannot locate any info online. The part number is H3D043. Can you find anything?

Is it possible that an EDF can burn an ESC because of the timing of the motor? I just burned an 150a 12s esc, but I'm not sure what caused the shortcut.

can this setting motor timing or demag burn motors? My motors are cold but every 3rd session I burn a stator.

Thank you. That was very informative and helps me better understand that setting. Is there ever a situation in which variable motor timing would make sense (changing the timing based on either rpm or load) ?
@chris-ip4pk3 жыл бұрын
My motor spec says 15 degree timing, however my esc has 12 or 18 ,which should I go for ,and my motor says 8khz drive frequency but my esc has a setting called pwm is that the same,its confusing,

If the stator has 12 poles and 3 phases that would mean 4 sine waves for each revolution, right? So on such a motor the geometrical angle should be one fourth of the motor timing phase offset. So a motor timing of 24 would mean the coil is powered when the magnet is 6 degrees ahead of the pole.
@FPVUniversity4 жыл бұрын
Actually it's electrical RPM * poles (number of magnets) / 2

Hi Pawel. I wonder if you can help me solve this extra nerdy problem?? I’m dealing with a brushless 1/10 scale sensored motor. The timing on it is marked outside between 0-60 and is set at the factory to 35. Here is the geeky part. When the ESC is powering it normally (it’s A,B,C fase wires are connected properly) it turns counter clockwise when looking at the shaft from behind. Which is in reverse. So I need to set the ESC to reverse the throttle channel. But I think the timing is off. Because it turns faster in reverse than forward! But since 30 degrees is the average setting (0-60 range) it should not make a big difference… but it does. And when swapping A and C phased in an attempt to trick it into turning correctly it jams! Only vibrating and making a terrible sound. 🤦🏻♂️So I would appreciate your thoughts on this. Spasiba my friend. Cheers from Canada.

swap any two wires and motor should rotate opposite
@tallewinger3 жыл бұрын
@@FPVUniversity Thanks for your reply Pawel. Supposedly. But i tried all permutations and when I swap any wires the motor just vibrates acting as if it is jammed. I think it has to do with it being sensored perhaps. Any ideas? I changed the timing from 30 to 60. assuming that 60 in reverse is equivalent to 0 going forward. I have not had a chance to test it yet to see if this fixes the problem and now the wheels will spin as fast or faster going forward, than reverse.

Great explanation. Have a question more or less related. Is it possible to have a configurable mode in a switch in inav when you land the propeller remains or stay in a horizontal position? It would be useful for fixed wings when you land to protect the propeller and the structure of the motor.
@FPVUniversity4 жыл бұрын
No, ECSs have no function like that

Pushing is basically the second phase after pulling
@magicalpencil4 жыл бұрын
it pulls it until they are lined up, then it pushes, it is in time with the waveform going up and down
