You need sabot slugs for rifled barrels and rifled slugs for smooth bore barrels.

I use the rifle slug with a rifle barrel on my slug gun and have killed many deer 🦌. Nice size doe and awesome video. Next deer season do a slug gun buck hunt.

@@OleSmiles-Outdoors what in the world. You do know you’d get better accuracy, not to mention you would have much better results period. It’s not made to do so for a reason. Don’t be stupid just because your hardheaded. Get you a box of hornady critical sabot slugs. If you got a rifled barrel. If you have a smooth bore, put the CYLINDER choke in, and shoot rifled slugs. Do what you please but usually mixing ammo that’s not stamped isn’t such a good idea my friend.

Kinda sad that the gun dealer has no clue about slugs when selling slug guns...lol. as a gun collector and having a licensed gunsmith in the family, I find that alot when shopping for firearms. Alot of dealers are very misinformed or either believe common myths and push them as facts when selling. Drives me nuts..lol

Totally can …just don’t go tighter than a IC. They even make “rifled chokes” where the choke is Groved to give some spin to the slug. Read the box of slugs it’ll tell you which choke is ideal. Now that’s for rifle slugs not saboted slugs. Saboted slugs are for actual rifled barrels.

Flair use sabot slugs(slugs with pointed plastic acu tips) in rifled barrel and rifled slugs in smooth bore barrels. Also yes 😂😂😂😂 slugs are brutal to shoot but they have stopping power for sure .That's about all we can use in Illinois. Muzzleloader and handgun as well. Love the content man!!! For slugs improved cyclinder or cylinder bore chokes are fine to shoot slugs through. If the barrel is rifled you shoot sabot slugs, if the barrel is smooth bore your shoot rifled slugs. That clanking when you walked out sounded like a mag tube limiter.

Coming from Ohio for years we were only able to hunt deer with shotguns till recently when that passed straight wall guns. I can tell you from experience you won’t find anything like a 12 gauge slug at a decent range. You will consistently drop deer with it. And you also found a absolutely dandy gun. Been looking for the exact one you have. Also you can shoot slugs through chokes and not damage the gun just don’t shoot slugs through a full choke. In my smooth bore shotgun I shoot through a MOD choke. Would love to one day have the opportunity to come hang and hunt with you. Keep up the great videos.

You should only used sabot slugs in a rifled barrel. Rifled slugs are for smooth bore shotguns. You'll be able to reach out a lot further with a sabot as well. Great video as always though Flair!

I can tell you that you should definitely make a video on giving saddle hunting a shot. Saddle hunting challenge! Especially while it’s gaining serious traction in the deer hunting community. In smoothbore you use rifled/foster slugs. In rifled barrels you use sabot slugs. You can use chokes to shoot slugs. They will effect point of impact and spread depending on the one you choose. Modified and cylinder will work but modified experience drop faster due to constriction of the choke and cylinder will have more deviation left and right as well as drop quicker. Improved cylinder works best as it normally provides better accuracy and grouping overall.

I’ve always used Slugs for deer hunting my first year I thought was a slug I dropped it on 110 yards with a 20 gauge. Mice lungs were pointed kind of like a 2 to 3 but in a 20 gauge shell with a polymer tip. Also you need to try using an air rifle to hunt deer with.

Just some future knowledge for ya, you can't blame the deer dropping instantly on the caliber of the bullet being shot. The deer instantly dropping has everything to do with shot placement, not the caliper. Awesome shot and great video, keep it up :D

So the reason for the shorter barrel is because it’s a slug barrel. It’s actually rifled, so longer barrels would actually decrease your velocity. Plus, as you stated, it’s a heck of a lot easier to carry through brush. Also, the noise as you tipped it over is just the gas piston moving up and down the tube. Just regular Remington stuff lol, I have plenty of Remingtons and they all do that if the chamber is open.

Hey Flair... Great shooting!!! That shotgun appears to be either a Remington 1100 or 1187. I have the magnum 12 gauge 1100 model myself. The barreal you have is a cantilever scope mount I have the same. If you have rifling in the barrel, choke or fully rifled, it is mainly for Sabot type slugs. Smooth bore slug barrels are for Foster or Brenneke slugs. Foster and Brenneke slugs have rifling built into them and often when shot thru a rifled barrel will often exit the barrel irradicably and have different point of impacts. Rifle chokes will not have as big of an effect I have taken deer with mine out to 150 yards with Sabots in mine. . You can remove the barrel and scope and throw on a shot barrel and it is a great duck and goose gun. .I have 4 barrels for mine.

Remington 1100/1187s… That metal “clink” you’re hearing is the gas piston seals and ring that sit on the outside of the magazine tube. Perfectly normal my guy! Those guns are OG and badass! Love it.

That is a really nice shotgun. I wouldn't mind having it to go with my 870 Wingmaster pump. FYI, you can absolutely shoot slugs out of a shotgun with screw-in chokes. The old guy didn't know what he was talking about. Just make sure the correct choke is in the shotgun, typically improved or modified, or you can get rifled chokes specifically for shooting slugs. An actual slug barrel will be rifled like a rifle barrel. By the way, you were extremely close to shooting the bed of your side-by-side. In fact, on your third shot something flew off either the bed of your side-by-side or your shotgun. I wouldn't recommend shooting like that. 😀
