Caesar was both famous and notorious for his forgiving of debts. The reason the Ides of March was notable in Roman times was that it marked the date that all debts would come due. This was often a nightmare for the working class (proletarii) who usually owed money. Luckily for them Caesar also owed a lot A LOT of money so after he came to power the first Ides that rolled around he decreed all debts forgiven which naturally angered the loan sharks who enjoyed playing senator on occasion. Anyways associating killing Caesar on the Ides was symbolic, basically Brutus pandering to the Roman elites saying that he murdered Caesar to avenge their financial losses.
