A 9.8 sold by Heritage Auctions in 2019 for $90,000, but that includes their 20% buyer's premium. So probably about $72,000. Others in similar condition ranged from $52,000-66,000, but still in a little better shape than the one in the video. One in slightly lesser grade sold in 2020 for $45,600. None of those, however, were autographed. That said, an autographed 9.2 sold for $39,600 this past January.
@rbdz292 жыл бұрын
The appraiser was low-balling the seller...possibly because Rick Harrison doesn't like to sell comic-books. A 6.5 of the same comic book is priced at 15 to 20K. The 9.8 sells for around 100K. TMNT stuff is hot and only likely to continue going up in value.

I did some research on this comic and found it around the same price that is was appraised at on this show however it was without the autograph. Probably around 15 to 20k is accurate with the autograph. I read that the original sketch for the photo on the cover of the comic sold at auction for about 70k which is why I think the seller was asking 60k because he mistook the sketch price for the price of the comic book.
@whiskerbiscuit66744 жыл бұрын
Signatures often reduce the value of the book regardless of authenticity. It's still considered altered and damaged. Signatures only help authenticate things that are mass produced that can't be pinned down to the person. IE there are a million fender strats, so to have one signed says it was owned by that person. Which makes it rare because not all strats were owned by that person. The comic itself is inherently rare so the signature isn't necessary. You're not buying it because of the autograph you're buying it because of the rarity of the book, and the signature is technically damaging the rarity. The smarter thing to do is get a picture with the Author or Artists and have them sign your picture, or just have them sign a reprint or a postcard.
@l.a.rodriguez95813 жыл бұрын
What? signed 9.8s exist, which if you know comics, means it’s perfect. Also, Guitar players sign guitars that aren’t theirs. A vintage Strat signed by Leo Fender is worth way more than an identical unsigned one. The smart thing to do is get something signed with a CGC witness. A signature by the creator will make an item more valuable 99.9% of the time.
@rbdz292 жыл бұрын
The value of this comic book varies greatly - price guides put a 6.5 of the same comic at 15K. Don't know where the appraiser got his numbers but he was way low for a comic that is likely to increase in value.

Reality: The Eastman and Laird run of TMNT is closing in on the upper echelon of comic book prices. Ninja Turtles are close to being in the same category as Super-Man, Batman, The Flash, Spider-Man, Captain America, and Iron Man....all of which have gotten upwards of 500,000 dollars or millions for their respective number 1's, even in some cases, comics graded as low as 5 or below. The TMNT number 1, first print, has reportedly sold for 150,000 and 250,000 in some cases for a 9.0 or over. But, the point of this is, Rick Harrison poo-poos on some collectibles as not his thing, which are generally given to Chumlee (ex, comics, shoes, video games, etc). Rick supposedly doesn't deal in Nazi paraphernalia, Ivory.....or baseball cards from after 1960 and beanie babies. I have lists from auctions in which the TMNT number 1 has sold for over 30 to 50 thousand....and in recent years, the number appears to be skyrocketing. Every generation has Ninja Turtles as part of their pop culture and I don't think that will change anytime soon. BUT - if you're a Pawn Shop dealer, you're not looking to pay 50K for what could eventually be more than 1 million in 20 years.

Anybody notice the Pokemon toy or box behind Rick at 0:57? Reminds me of the episode where customer tried to sell Pokemon cards to Rick but he wouldn't buy them because he didn't know anything about them, but yet he has a Pokemon toy in his shop lol doesn't really make sense

It's valued currently at $11k. A press can cost between $20-$25. CGC charges if you have a subscription about $50. I would do the less than $100 investment and get that $20k. And tbh I don't think he'll ever get 20k for that book

A 9.8 is worth around $20,000, I assume signed doesn't change much for the comic itself. But yeah he won't get much more than 12k for it no matter what. A 9.8 that's been "pressed" isn't' the same as a 9.8 that's a natural 9.6 or 9.8

@@LordRayken where are u getting that a 9.8 first print is 20k because a first print 9.8 just sold for almost 80k or best offer on the 10th

@@hiddenoni5168 "sold for almost 80k or best offer". that's literally meaningless, was the best offer 79k or was it a nickle?

What makes you say that? 12000 is an accurate price for a graded and signed 9.4 in 2020 and 11k was probably accurate when this was shot.

I've browsed pawn shops all my life and I've never seen any pawn shop worker ever ask a customer how much they want for an item.

When i was younger and poorer i pawned stuff (with the intention of paying off the loan) and almost always got asked how much i wanted, unless its just precious metals (i.e. gold and silver that just has a set market rate)
