Sort of. He had to play fair since none of his buddies were available to say what it was worth. I'd never let a pawn broker bring in an expert on the item I was selling. He either knows about it or he doesn't. I'd also never try to sell anything without having a fairly solid idea of what it's worth. This lady seems to have done her homework.

David Silverstein if you refuse to let the expert come then he's just not gonna buy it... defeating the purpose of you coming there in the first place to sell it

Tretch, when's the last time you went into a pawn shop and they made you wait while they called in an expert? It doesn't happen. Because nobody would wait around to get swindled. It only happens on a tv show. These people have to know they're getting swindled. They do it just to be on tv.

He doesn't rip anyone off. The show has been going since 2009 and you should know by now that when you go to a pawnshop or similar, you are not going to the true retail value. If you want cash, now, with no hassle, you take it to a pawnshop, and know they are going to make 50-100% markup on the item when they sell it. That's how they stay in business. That's how Walmart stays in business. That's how all shops stay in business. That's how buying and selling shares work. They buy cheap, and sell high.

@@vincewithslapchop3940 You're thinking of the cauldron lighter. Anyone who ran with the torch is a torchbearer. Some people can keep their torches (perhaps for a price), whilst others are probably cleaned and reused later in the torch relay because the organizers and company contracted only produced so many torches and not enough for all torchbearers to have one.
