Would you avoid grafting in the late summer/fall if its still the spring wood which has been stored?

Hello Jim, is it too late to graft now next few days? On a seedling rootstock. Thank you Sir

You know, IF you grafted those seedling tops you cut off and graft them onto other seedlings you COULD quickly discover a 'new' variety doing this as the grafted Paws are earlier in fruit production by about 3 years (?) Jim, do you see what I'm saying sir ? Funny thing I saw that idea fly to the fore of My MIND when I first started to watch you in this video and saw the lovely cut-off assumably being tossed onto a humus pile. You are an amazing man and I'm very happy to be taught all this -most strange- Paw tree knowledge by your videos !! Hope you live to be 100.

Everytime you graft you are mixing and adding to the viral load. If it's on it's own roots it might be worth it to be patient and not add any other viruses until you can experience the seedling for what it should be on its own.

That won't make a difference. The only reason that a graft fruits sooner than a seedling is because the ortet, the tree that the scion came from originally, has already passed through it's juvenile growing phase. The scion is adult tissue.

Thank you for the video. It seems like over time you've tried a few different grafting techniques. Is the graft shown here your favorite style you'd recommend for pawpaw?
@pawpawchronicles-n-morewit12102 жыл бұрын
Actually the tongue and whip graft is the one I like the most. However this is the easiest. Thx for watching 👀.

does it has to be a transparent tape? is black tape ok? and where do the young shoot come out? as every part is covered with tape
@pawpawchronicles-n-morewit12102 жыл бұрын
The tape that's being used is called parafilm. A tape that is designed to decompose over a period of time. As the buds begin to swell they are able to push through the tape. Black tape doesn't have the characteristics needed for grafting.

Nice, thanks. Where did you get the scion? and.... What's the best time of year to graft pawpaws?
@pawpawchronicles-n-morewit12103 жыл бұрын
The scion came from red fern farm. Best to graft early spring after the danger of frost has gone. Thx for watching 👀.

How did it turn out? Can you graft on a branch from a different type to a tree?
@pawpawchronicles-n-morewit12103 жыл бұрын
It turned out good. As for grafting a different type on a tree, yes it should. However, two types competing to draw nutrients could cause the graft to eventually die. Thx for watching 👀.

@@pawpawchronicles-n-morewit1210 I was thinking of allowing a branch or two from the rootstock to grow so I can see what kind of fruit it grows and to help with cross pollination. Doing that would shorten the lifespan of the graft? or its a bad idea?
@pawpawchronicles-n-morewit12102 жыл бұрын
Mr.Flanders, first let me thank you for watching and the reply. As for your answer, that is a practice that I've heard some people do. However, I don't because eventually the rootstock would overcome the graft. You'll have greater success with the graft if none of the rootstock is not allowed to grow.
