Nice project, FoxAlien certainly carved that well. Did I see the spindle stop & restart between rapid moves? (Very prominent switching to the 2nd clamp) Is that an Ease, UGSl or FoxAlien function?

Yes, it did stop during the rapid moves. That is Easel. UGS only runs the Gcode. Thank you very much.

What is your $32 setting? If it's 1, it switches off laser during rapid moves. But it will also switch off router during rapid moves in CNC mode!

I know this isn’t the right spot to request this, but I’m having a very hard time creating a round box in easel. I’m trying to make, what I thought was, a simple box in easel that is about 5” in diameter, has a bottom and a lid but the walls are “stepped” if that makes sense and are a 1/4” thick. Could you make a video on this? You’re a great teacher. I can supply more info if you would like. Something very similar to John Clark’s Dragon box, but I’ve been using Easel and he doesn’t. Thanks!

This would be easy in VCarve. Just a round box with a fitted lid and no dividers in the box. Is that correct?

@@PawPawsWorkShop yes. Is that possible in Easel? I think I get close and then the walls get all these crazy vertical lines (the nodes looks fine. Only shows 4 to make up a circle). Mathematically it should be easy, but it won’t simulate right.

Ok, start with a circle 5”d. Set the depth of cut .25. Next circle 4.5”d with zero cut depth. A third circle 4.125”d and set the depth as deep as you need it. This is the bowl pocket. Now to cut out the box, create another circle 5.125”d and set at full cut depth. The cut path will be on the inside. Your box is done. Now for the lid. The outer circle is 5.125”d full cut depth. The next circle 5”d will be zero cut depth. The third circle will be 4.5”d with a cut depth of .25”. This is done off the top of my head. You may have to allow a tolerance of about .004 for the lid. The whole process in easel is nothing more than a series of circles at various depths to create the box.

Do I need to use candle? Can I get just as good results just using easel with the 4040xe? Any reason why I couldn’t just use easel at all times with the 4040xe?

Any reason you cut the slot as a pocket instead of a cut-out like the square? It probably would have saved a ton of time. I created the slot in Easel, simulated one as a pocket, and one as a cutout, the pocket took 7 min. at the stock settings, and the cutout took 2 min. at the stock settings. Otherwise, great video, and great project.

I would suggest starting with Easel by Inventables. Its free and is an easy to learn software. The pro version does cost but you can do so much with the free version. Later you may with to purchase VCarve Desktop by Vectrics. To use this software you will need a sender to run the cnc machine. The Openbuilds (free) is one such sender software and another one is UGS (Universal GCode Sender again this is free also.

Have you tried the open builds control software? When i was using an arduino setup with ugs i stumbled upon their control software, tried it and absolulely loved it. It is much easier to use and navigate with a nice UI especially for beginner users.

hi ive just bought this machine and everything is fine but ive noticed that its x axis cuts are 1mm out, as in if i make a pocket 50mm x 50mm the finished piece is 50mm on the y axis but 49mm on the x axis. any help?

First check the belts,wheels, and all nuts and bolts are tight. If all the mechanicals check out then you will need to calibrate the machine. If you only have one mm off you will have to decide if that is acceptable or move to the calibration. I have a couple of videos showing how to do it.
