For example, if you murder somebody it's your duty to pray for forgiveness and to go and receive your due punishment (ideally the death penalty). This is your duty to your fellow man. Also... If you have committed a good deal of heinous crimes it's likely a good chance you will do something far worse in the future, then by stopping said person by death penalty is in the Christian view an act of mercy. The turn the other cheek parable is misinterpreted due to lack of cultural context. Jesus said if your RIGHT cheek is slapped, turn the other cheek. since the left hand was reserved for unclean tasks, backhanded slaps were insulting and meant for lower people like slaves. Jesus said that instead of cowering, turn your cheek and force the Roman or whoever to slap you as an equal, since they wouldn’t use their left hand, they’d have to hit your left cheek with their right hand. I remember some 4chan post a while back that put me on to that concept. “defiance, not compliance: turning the other cheek” is what i looked at to refresh my memory of the details

Kind of, but it's also simpler to point out that when Christ says turn the other cheek, he does not say let him rape your children. Turning the other cheek also means not losing your temper after being slighted. At the end of the day, being slapped may be embarrassing, insulting, and demeaning, but you'll probably forget about it in a few days anyway. 1st Century jews had a nasty tendency to be petty and seek to subvert and destroy the Romans at every turn. That is simply not who Christ calls us to be.

@JW-hx2bz3 жыл бұрын
@john brown That's also a common misconception. Catholics do not believe that the eucharist is the "literal" or "physical" body and blood of Christ, but that it is Really, and Truly the body and blood of Christ. The Catechism of the Catholic church teaches on this when it describes Transubstantiation by discussing the differences between accidents and substances. Concerning Mary, is she not the mother of God? Can I not pray for you? Is that not too much of a step to make? Concerning Priests, Do they not have spiritual authority passed down from Peter and the bishops which was originally given by Christ? It follows that given that authority they are the ones ordained to consecrate the bread and wine into Christ's body blood soul and divinity. If calling a priest father is an issue for you then stop calling your biological father, father as well. The church has always taught that Priests not being allowed to get married is a discipline, not dogma or doctrine. Eastern Catholic priests for instance can marry.
@benitocamelo14883 жыл бұрын
He could even talk about the saints, I know other Jewish sects, sorry, Christian denominations have them too but there's some differences. Also, fun fact: at least the Catholic church has a patron saint for mixed race people: St Martin of Porres 😳
@JW-hx2bz3 жыл бұрын
You misunderstand. You are referring to dictionary definitions of those terms. I am referring to specific theological terms that have certain nuanced meanings. I urge you to read the catechism and learn about these topics as Catholics understand them and do not misrepresent us with strawmen representations. And to deny the Theotokos, or the god-bearer, is to deny the hypostatic union. Jesus being fully God and fully man. It also denies his two natures. His human nature and his Godly nature. What links St. Peter to modern day priests is Apostolic Succession. Authority that has been passed down from bishop to bishop, originating from Christ. Historical records show this is great detail, as well as the church fathers. All believers are equal in value, but not equal in authority. There are nuanced differences here. Just as men and women are both equal in value but not authority. I'm not talking about eastern orthodox either. The fact that you do not even know the difference between eastern catholics and eastern orthodox tells me a lot.

I'm really happy that I've grown into my faith recently. Back then I grew up in a Catholic household (I'm Mexican and our culture is typically very religious and traditional), and I foolishly thought being a Catholic or Christian was cringe and "not cool", not knowing that Christianity is fundamental in pretty much every way imaginable. I can go on and on about how important it is to me today, but to put it lightly, without the faith, I'm nothing and everything around me means nothing, if I don't accept God, his teachings and grace for the soul. This is why the social/political left are basically hippies, because they have no real meaning or substance in their lives, so they result to selfish relative pleasures and they can literally justify almost anything these days. These hippies have no self-restraint or any real discipline they practice, because they are weak and lost. I can't even imagine how lost and void these people feel, knowing they are living artificial destructive lives. Faith and a grasp on God, Spirituality and Christian principles and beliefs = Healthy food for the soul and mind. Self-obsessed liberation and living an artificial life based on lust and greed = Junk food and candy for the soul and mind.

Thanks, I was thinking a video like this needed to be made. I'm glad somebody did it. And there are PLENTY of other misconceptions such as: - People thinking there's no proof/evidence when there is plenty, such as Pilate's record of Jesus. - People thinking salvation itself is about good/bad behavior when its about faith in Christ's sacrifice. - People thinking Christians are full of themselves when we're actually praising God. - People not understanding this world is under a curse since man's fall from the garden. + Many more Maybe you should do a follow-up if you haven't already. (I subscribed!)

Point 2 is actually incorrect. "Salvation by faith alone" is not biblical. It was something invented in the 16th century by so-called Reformers. Point 3 is also quite accurate when talking about the American church, but a lot of people see it as representative of all Christians.

There is a single archeological direct evidence of pilate and it's confirming it has existed, not even him talking about jesus (there is little evidance of the man/son of god existing at all anyway and not a single direct or even secondary proof) but just his existance and it was confirmed by a stone find 60 years ago. It's the stone of pilate, everything else is indirect source or just biblical stuff wich is far from being reliable. You last point is complet bias, christan where always an apolcalyptic cult and expected the end of the world to be soon when they where created. We are 2000 years after that and nothing happen, humanity is at it highest point, we have walked on the moon and know much better about the world that anybody before, many people know more than fuckin Albert Einstein about some point of the universe. hello! i’m sorry that i’ve posted this so late, a year later, i just found this video myself and i feel like sharing a message, just sharing: i recommend looking up Cliff knechtle’s christian videos on yt, they are very useful and might answer a lot of your questions, and as i christian the best advice i think i can give is to trust The Lord always, even through you may not understand why certain things happen, you may not understand some concepts or it is hard to change at first, but trust in Him, He is the only one that knows what’s good for us and knows what truly means to be righteous. If you do not believe or have certain opinions based on what you’ve heard or based on christians please just look at the faith and at Jesus, only at what the Bible said and what Jesus said, make a judgment based on the Leader not of us, because The Lord Himself told us that because we are not acting as we should, as His followers, because we are not being disciplined and because we don’t love anymore as we should we need to change, and Jesus said that everything we need to do we should do with love and with the thought of helping and bringing people back to Him, basically to start to be more like Him and less like our old self, so please just read the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, then, after you have an idea about it just start to read everything, this will change you in better, please just give it a chance and actually try to understand, don’t give up because it is hard at first, just try please, this saved my life now i’m praying that will help you also. In Jesus Name i claim Amen❤🙏

Decent video Pax. But two things here: (sorry if this comes off of like a reddit essay). But @12:19 "The Early Medieval ages" timeframe is _alot_ more shorter then what is presented in the video, it does not start in the 200's ADs it starts nearly over 1000 years later as in probably around the 1100's-1200's. There were _even more ages_ in between 200AD to 1000AD...... This goes into the following (pardon me if I forget one or a few or have them out of order here as there's a quite a couple of them): Classical Antiquity, Antiquity, Late Antiquity (the antiquity ages for the most part encompasses the time frame of the middling of the Roman empire, the late Roman empire as a whole then the division between the WRE and ERE's respectively. and also "the infancy" of the Viking/Germanic tribes raids on britian, britian also gets originally christianized by The Romans during these era's). The age of Migrations, The age of Justinian and The Age of the old gods (These ages encompasses: the rise/settling of many of the barbarian tribes/successor states, the births of many of the father nations to our modern ones, the colonization/Germanization of Britannia happens ((meaning that the German tribes stop raiding it for the most part)) while the danish Vikings start to raid the isles, all the while Christianity gets forgotten there and replaced with Germanic paganism, along some formal Christianized places within Europe also revert back to barbarian paganism ((but it would be Germanic paganism for the most part as many were colonized by Germanic tribes)), so around the very late 400's-500's. the age of the Merovingians, the age of the Vikings and the age of the Carolingians/charlemagne happends. (These ages encompass; The first dynastic royal family that encompassed almost all of Europe, when the most famous Viking raids have happened, the Vikings are still going somewhat strong, Christianity is starting to get reintroduced to Britannia ((along with most other once formal Christianized places in Europe)), half of western and southern Germannia gets Christianized by charlemagne, Christianity is starting to get quite popular again in europe; paganism begins to start to die off In europe, many of those father nations and identities to our modern nations have been settled or have long since been settled by now.) So around the late 500's to 600's "The end of the old gods" age and The iron Age (these ages encompasses; the rest of Germannia being completely christianized, the father nations to our modern ones have crumbled by now or start to, many modern-day national identities start to take form/take shape or are being formed in the peocess, the viking raids start die out and Scandinavia gets crusaded then Christianized along with the pagan Prussians), ((The iron age is also the intermittent age to the early medieval middle-ages)) so around the 700's-1000's These Universities/colleges bastardize these ages themselves. (similarly to how many people bastardize/over-summarize them with the dark ages thing) To justify covering less and to be more brief about them. I say this also, since many of the modern states/nations you have mentioned near the end of the segment, either didn't formally Exist at those times (or didnt completely at all: a good example of that would be Switzerland, as that would be a 1250-1350 thing/a late proper-middle ages or to a late high middle-ages type of thing ( That "thing" here being national identity), so it would not be a early middle ages thing as that would encompass the 1000's to 1100's here). And uh, about that other thing here, What are your thoughts on: The Original Sin of babies and that of repentance/forgiveness here?
@jakethesnake3593 Жыл бұрын

I know it's off-topic, but still. The map @ ~13:50 shows Russia, although there was none. In fact, Moscow was not even founded untill 1147, and the name Russia was first mentioned in 15th century and was officially applied to Moscovite kingdom by Peter the Great

The 'Rus' were a people, though they were based out of Kiev for most of the 9th-11th centuries.

I always found the Medieval era of the church to be the most interesting and my personal favorite. Giving rise to some of the most impactful times in history, important movements, and greatest minds and thoughts.

As a Bible-believing Baptist Christian, you've gotta be the most Bible-based Catholic I've seen on KZbin! Though I don't 100% agree with how you identify Christianity with the Catholic church, I love that the doctrines you preach in all your videos really coincides with the Bible & true Christian Living. If possible, I'd love to see if ur willing to do an exploration on the Catholic side of how the Catholic church dealt with the Baptist/Anabaptist denomination & why most the Christian world (well, on the Internet at least) don't really know about such underrated history from the Middle Ages onwards. Keep on keeping on Pax! God bless & Soli deo Gloria!

Try to listen to Dan Carlin's Hardcore History Podcast about the Anabaptist of Münster, you will understand pretty quick why Catholics went ballistic on Anabaptists. 20% of Germany, Austria and Hungary died because of Anabaptist teachings. Anabaptists were the Stalinist communist of their day. The only ones who were worse are the Cathars, who thought having children was trapping innocent souls in a devilish world, and who therefore enthusiastically murdered pregnant women. The Catholics have done the right thing with their inquisition, at times. The reason I dislike the rainbow flag is not because it's a gay rights flag (hate the sin not the sinner), the reason I dislike the rainbow flag is that Anabaptist used the rainbow flag during the German peasant wars as their banner. Thomas Müntzer, Martin Luther former partner in crime, designed the flag and used the rainbow as a symbol of his violent revolution that saw nuns raped and children of rich people tortured to death in the name of purifying the world of devils.

Catholics in reality are pretty open to new ways of being a Christian as long as you believe in one god and one global church. Franciscans were worthless, lacy hippies from the perspective of a Benedictine, but they were accepted pretty easy. The same goes for Jesuits and Dominicans. They all have totally different ways of worshiping god. Starting out with a violent revolution was basically the only way to not become a tolerated part of the Catholic Church.

The Catholic Church is the church Christ made on earth. You can't study Christianity without Catholicism.

So I’m catholic, but I’ve wondered if orthodox is better, which denomination is best and follows close to scripture? I wish to go into that one.

There is no better religion. There is only one true religion, which is the catholic Church

The primary difference is with how the orthodox church views the holy trinity, at least from what I’ve been taught. The thing with the trinity stems from a debate centred around the Constantinople-nicean creed. There were many debates during the period trying to set in stone how the trinity was structured, with certain thinkers like Arius becoming prominent. Less so in their adoption but more so in how the church tried to reject these ideas. The 4th (i think id have to check) ecumenical council modified the pre-existing nicean creed to include one very important word, filioque. Meaning: and from the son. This relates to the holy spirit coming from both the father & the son, this is more or less what most protestant & catholic groups believe. The church leaders from the “east” (academic term I’m not a big fan of) rejected this and split from the wider church. This is not to say that the orthodox church is more “pure”, per se, as they have then had as much time as the Catholic Church to change and mutate, it’s more just to say that they, at least from an outsiders perspective, are both completely valid interpretations of what christianity is & should be. Also there is not one group of christians alive who are perfectly aligned with scripture: the bible has changed drastically over the last two millennia. Its a game of Chinese whispers throughout the ages.

"There are not one hundred people in the United States who hate The Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they wrongly perceive the Catholic Church to be."-- Bishop Fulton Sheen.. I love the teachings of the Church, the life of the saints, and all the beautiful artistic paintings.
