@@DeadlyRealityTV hey, so there is a red star and a blue star that people get confused. The blue one is out of Nashville and is owned by covenant in Chattanooga but that’s the one that’s merged into landair. I’m not sure about the red Star, idk anything about them

@@DeadlyRealityTV I gotcha. Wish I could help you on that one but idk anything about them other than they exist and you see them on the road obviously but don’t know anything about their internal stuff. Covenant bought the blue Star back in 06, but when they purchased LandAir a couple of years ago, they’ve been merging Star into LandAir since it’s a bigger company. Star’s President also retired after decades and they have a new guy that took over so I’m not sure how that change is going

@@db6800 interesting I’ll do some research on covenant too. Do you recommend any company’s for someone fresh out of school? I’m about to graduate and I’d love to haul fuel but it seems it requires atleast 1 yr experience. I was thinking doing OTR for swift for a year and taking my chances with another company after. Is that a good idea, you think?

What should we bring on the day before we start orientation. Should we bring everything we'll need or just our suitcase with clothes in our general paperwork. Should we bring our television to put in our truck should we bring our microwave to put in our truck should we bring all the food that we usually travel with to keep stored in our truck should we bring our blankets and pillows and sheets for our bunk in our truck or could we be setting ourselves up for disaster because it doesn't mean we're getting hired it just means we're going through the hiring process obtaining the orientation
@shadowtrucker2102 жыл бұрын
Just bring what you need for orientation. Bring enough clothes for an entire week because the process could take up to 1 week. Bring any and all paperwork that you think you might need. Do not bring any items to put in your truck since you don't know if you will actually be hired. I don't know why your recruiter told you to bring all of that. If you are hired, just let them know that you have to go home to get everything for your truck. If they already have a truck there for you, they will try to send you by your house with the truck within your 1st week of employment so that you can just put everything right into the truck. If there is not a truck ready for you, they will send you home with a rental or bus ticket. When a truck becomes available, they will get you a rental and you can load everything into it and drive to the truck.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly but I have one more question can you do a video on mounting a TV in your truck if you don't have one can you please explain where one would be mounted if you were to mount one in your truck
@shadowtrucker2102 жыл бұрын
@@outdoorswithtim.576 I have never mounted a tv in any truck I have driven so I'm not entirely sure. I usually just watch everything on my laptop. You would either need to look up your specific truck diagram, youtube your specific truck, or call the dealership and ask them.

Hiring process, what do they send you home for that your driving record reveal? I have a feeling they don’t check records before you go there? So what would be on there that they will deny you?
@shadowtrucker2102 жыл бұрын
I know they will send you home for DUI/DWI (within the last 3-5 years, I think), reckless driving and crap like that. I'm not sure what speeding ticket will send you home. Mine was 15+, and I was still good. You are right, they don't really check anything until you are at orientation. It doesn't make any sense because they're just wasting your time and their time by doing that.

How’s it going bro? So the $.15 on a mile for Perdiem only takes affect if you meet your quota of miles per week? If not you get paid your minimum? And the Perdiem is not in affect? Because you’re already getting paid your minimum?
@shadowtrucker2102 жыл бұрын
No, the $.15 is always in effect if you choose the per diem package. Your overall pay is what gets affected if you have a guaranteed minimum. Let's say your minimum pay is $1,500 and you make $.60/mi.... If you only drive 500 miles for the week, then the company will pay the extra money to make up your pay for the short miles. But if you get 3,000 miles, then you will get paid $.60/mi since it would be more than your minimum. The $.15 is just non taxable income. That also affects your ssi and stuff when you're older since you're paying less into it right now.

How do you get hazmat certified? My recruiter just sent over my pre hire info to the school I’ll be training at. I’ll be working with landair

You would have to call your DMV or Sheriff's department and ask for that info. I am not hazmat certified so I'm not completely sure. I do know that you have to be fingerprinted and have a background check ran before you take the test though.

I go for orientation later this month how much on average does the home weekly accounts make for new drivers?

This all depends on what account you are on and the area you live. I covered the general pay. There are too many accounts for me to cover them all. I would imagine you will make about $1100 a week though.

@shadowtrucker2103 жыл бұрын
@@jimmiejones6991 Being fresh out of school that will be your starting pay, which is including per diem. Per diem isn't seperate pay. They will just seperate your pay into taxable and non taxable income on your paycheck. You're pay will go up after every few months as long as you are doing everything correctly. There is a breakdown for new driver pay somewhere on the Covenant website. If I can find it I'll put the link on here. You may also be put with a trainer for a while. You'll have to check with your recruiter and see if they know anything about that or if you'll have to wait until orientation.

@@shadowtrucker210 quick question can you take your time off in any state?
@shadowtrucker2103 жыл бұрын
@@alinaaguero3945 That's a good question. Do you mean for the 34hr reset? I don't think they would care as long as you are on a load that is going to that state, or through that state. He would probably just have to ask in advance so they can try to plan loads in that direction if they have any available.
@alinaaguero39453 жыл бұрын
@@shadowtrucker210 he said his time off so I’m not sure if he meant his 34 hr reset or his home time. But either way if he asked in advance hopefully they might give it to him. Also on another note his driver manager (Jeremy) had asked him when he was waiting to drop off his trailer to say he was on break. Basically to fudge his log books. Has that happened to you? Also at what point could he ask to be on sonoco dedicated account or does he have to wait until they decide to switch him?
@shadowtrucker2103 жыл бұрын
@@alinaaguero3945 If he's dropping a trailer and he'll be there for more than 30min then he can switch to "on duty yard move" and in the remarks select "drop/hook trailer". It will count as his break and it's allowed. That's what I do so I don't waste my drive time. The 30min break doesn't have to be taken off duty anymore. If he's getting unloaded he can also leave it in "on duty" and if it's longer than 30min it will count as his break. As far as switching accounts goes, I don't think he has to wait. He can always ask though and see what they say. They'll let him know if he has to wait or if he can switch immediately.
