This seems to be like a good review actually. It gets the gist of the state of payday 3 right now. It's a little empty as it is, but it has a lot of potential to grow and become a genuine successor to payday 2, despite the poor launch
@GamePilLP6 ай бұрын
This was always gonna be an issue. Payday 2 had over 70 heists so obviously Payday 3 is gonna be a step down but it took Payday 2 about 10 years to get all that content and Payday 3 hasnt even had a year yet (and so far the only new heist we got is really good imo)
@DeathSpread6 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that :) there's definitely a lot coming to the game, I'm excited to see what they do with it as I never got that opportunity with PD2

@@GamePilLPI feel you. When i first saw people complaining that payday 3 has a lack of heists, i was like "payday 2 was the same, and 4 of them are literally the same." Payday 1 started with only a handful of big scale heists and no one complained. Now payday 3 used the same logic and everyone is complaining. Now I know that payday 3 is quite rough right now, but from what i see its people comparing a game with a rocky beginning to a game that was polished since 2013 and are like "uhhh why is payday 3 so smaller than payday 2". Oh Oh no I just noticed This was BEFORE the progression got reworked I'm SO SORRY The scarcity of ammo is intended, makes Ammo Bags more useful, just like in the first game. In Payday 2, Ammo bags are basically just used for the Bottomless magazine skill As for cloakers... Everyone who played Payday 2 has PTSD from those bastards
@DeathSpread5 ай бұрын
Ahh I see, so some of the idiosyncronisidies with the game are a reaction to Payday 2. Which honestly is what it should be, if ammo bags were not what they wanted them to be in the previous game, adjust it! Let old players get used to the New system and new players get used to the way it is intended. I like it

All I've ever seen from the Payday community is either the 2 same sides: "Payday 3 BAD" and "Payday 3 is BACK." But I've never seen the perspective of a new player trying out the franchise and starting out with Payday 3. The points you made are definitely fair and it's interesting to listen to the thought process of a rookie. Welcome to the heisting world, your criminal record starts here.

Thank you! That's partly what drove me to do this, I know I have a weird position where I know the game but never played any in the franchise. So it's almost like I'd feel bad if I didn't at least make an ATTEMPT to do something unique haha. Everyone compares Payday 2 to Payday 3... how would it be if it were the other way around..? ;) But yes! Thank you. Thank you very much, I appreciate it :)

This was definitely a refreshing view to see. I'm glad you put the time to give it a go. It's rough sseeing that old Jan build before they really started pouring some love into the series, but it's great to see it's improved now. anyway: a lot of the story moments in the cutscenes are either references to Payday 2 or Payday: The Heist, the previous games, which since Payday has such a rich history when you play a game that's been in development over a decade and game's starting roots that began in 2012, it is something beautiful to engage in. Now the reason I believe you take issue with the Banks freezing and that they're heisters that they should've diversified their money. This is true and would be easy to assume that's what they had been doing this whole time if they're not keeping the money in a big vault under the safehouse or on Offshore Tax Havens, but in the events after Payday 2, when the president of the universe: Bob McKendrick is in the White House, the heisters all retired from heisting, their names pardoned and with their boatload of money: went on to live very comfortable civilian lives... for the most part, some people still kept to a life of crime, but it was more because it was all they knew. anyway: fastforward a few years after their retirement, a group of figureheads who have ties to an Ex-Murkywater contractor puts out a hit on the gang, Shade - the woman in your ears throughout the heists - manages to get into contact with 5 of the original heisters: Dallas, Hoxton, Chains, Wolf (the legacy 4 that you just cannot have a Payday game without them, as they learned when they pulled the stunt with Hoxton disappearing and Houston took the role as Hox for a while in Payday 2) and Joy, just before the hit is about to be carried out. In the midst of them having to now fight for their lives (along with every other member of the Gang, who are "unaccounted for") and escape from these hitmen: their accounts - which now were Civilian accounts - have been frozen, they're locked out of their money and their lives of luxury and excess was stripped from them, yet they at the beginning have no idea who is the mastermind behind this expertly calculated hit, and who on earth would know the gang deep enough to assault them that hard, all they know is: they're back in the game, and they want more than just answers. the Secret Tapes in Payday 2 offers brief glimpses into who exactly is out for Payday blood, but it's definitely in riddles how much is there. the DLC Roadmap is looking into more and more of this information (so far we know the name of the big mastermind behind it all after doing some digging in a Data Center which initially was for holding Military secrets on Drone Technology, and we have a feeling we know what they want to do specifically after one of our mosst trusted - but also stark raving mad - contractors: Vlad, gives us information about the mastermind after doing a job in The Bronx invading the Police Department to "take back what was mine!" since Vlad had been caught up in a Framed Sting Op on IRS gold by crooked cops planting Coke amongst the bullion). hopefully my long spiel on this (if you're willing to sit through and read it) should help you understand a bit better what happened, why things are done this way, and ultimately why in Payday 3: the gang's now without money.

3:37 I feel like this is one of the many reasons why not a lot of people like this game. It doesn't have much depth in stuff like builds or strategies but one might think otherwise because like the game lead dev said himself, that PAYDAY 3 is 'hard to learn, easy to master'. Especially the armour system... Whoever thought it was a good idea... Didn't play a game in pubs on low difficulties where new players struggle to complete heists on NORMAL. Because you're punished for making mistakes, no matter how big or small with permanent armour damage.
@DeathSpread6 ай бұрын
That's really it. The learning curve is seemingly huge for the game, but the tools they give you are simple. It's almost reminiscent of a rhythm game to me, simple controls, but practice makes perfect, nothing else
@ozwilliamTLDR5 ай бұрын
I found there to be quite a bit of build variety. You can focus on normal damage focused builds with stuff solely focusing on guns but its really fun to experiment with builds focusing on frag grenades and generating grit for constant armour chunk regeneration (with plate up) or stunning enemies a bunch with flashes, smokes, or shocks. Then there's manipulator and CQC human shields to work around with, Im at around 90 hours in pd3 with 600 hours in pd2 (I don't have as much time as I used to lmao) but I've made a bunch of loadouts all around other builds and even if they are not meta and good for every single situation they can really shine in some circumstances. I do agree a bit with the permanent armour damage but not entirely, I still think it could've been done better. Having limited possible armour you could preserve by using cover essentially giving you a time limit on the heist feels really reminiscent of heist movies where they have to get everything done and get out ASAP, but the way that final charge works where it triggers not based on the amount of waves that have passed but whether or not you are able to escape yet kind of makes the difficulty ramp up through the heist a bit unbalanced and made it so bringing armour bags was WAY too important, making any other deployable almost a sabotage to your team if you brought it. The game is in a better place balance wise between all of the options which is good, but it's kind of lost that time limit pressure it had at launch. But it is in an overall great state right now!
@antynomity5 ай бұрын
@@ozwilliamTLDR well payday the heist did the heist movie thing much better by just not letting you regenerate health without supplies, armour is supposed to be the damage buffer you need to get shit done, not another resource to have, also playing as fast as possible, while good on paper, is yet another reason why not so many people play PAYDAY 3 in the first place. It's not fun to play a game where the most 'fun' and optimal way to play is to get back into the menus as fast as humanly possible, instead of engaging with the game's fun combat. Not to say that playing as fast as possible shouldn't be done on some heists, taking PDTH into consideration again, the van chase part is something just like that, you can push up as fast as you can, or you can take it slow and wait for an assault break, making decisions is fun when it's done in a positive way for the player.
@antynomity5 ай бұрын
@@DeathSpread yeah, and the limited heist replayability only highlights that kind of playing mindset even more, as every time you play a heist it's basically going to be the exact same, with the exception of some true RNG objectives which they love to overuse sadly instead of variation in objectives compared to 2.

This is a very fair review. Payday 3 is the worst entry into the series by a long shot. Many of us who were familiar with the mechanics and story of the prior games were left confused most of the time. That said, I'm glad you were able to find enjoyment in the game, even at its lowest. It is getting better, thankfully. I hope you can eventually find a time to come back and give it a shot again, once it gets a lot more updates(likely a year or 2).

@xoeleox20795 ай бұрын
6:27, this is actually incorrect, so don't feel bad about your experience here. There is a lot about Payday 3 mechanically that is different from Payday 2, and I think it's actually probably easier for a new player to pick up Payday 3 than it is for a player to transition from playing Payday 2. The special enemies fill similar roles but act differently, the gunplay is changed entirely, and there are new mechanics like sliding that simply don't exist in Payday 2. It has more in common with other modern shooter games than Payday 2 in my opinion. 8:53 also yeah your bewilderment here is shared lol Payday 2 hit such high stakes they felt they had to hit the reset button narratively, and imo didn't handle it very well More broadly, it'd be interesting what you thought of Payday 2 and Payday: The Heist now, having played Payday 3.

My biggest issue is payday 2 and 3 are completely different in the way they play and feel like I think my friend said it best when he said payday 2 is cod zombies on round 50 it doesn’t require much skill whereas payday 3 u have to be constantly strategising and making sure not to run out of ammo now I won’t lie I prefer payday 2 but it depends on what gameplay formula u like I think payday 1 is a good balance between both of them which is pretty funny considering it’s the first

While it does prompt you to play the tutorial when you launch the game, it apparently doesn't tell you that that was just one of _four_ tutorial missions.
