My dad did EVERYTHING from the same checking account. He had a money market account that he would put excess funds in because of interest, but as one of his businesses was private lending that account churned a lot. But all his house bills and ALL of his separate businesses operated out of the same personal account. Even as a sole proprietor, that's a bad idea. Collectively, he made a profit, but I couldn't begin to tell which business made or lost money. There's absolutely no way he could have passed an IRS audit. Before he died, we created an LLC. That LLC has an operating and a savings account. I run three DBAs and each has its own account, and I just created an LLC which will have both an operating and a savings account. I don't see any other way to truly keep the accounting separate.

I have my business account in a credit union cause you have to have a savings account setup when you do a checking account. So the savings account becomes a savings area to hold money for emergency expenses and taxes. Makes easier transfer and move money in the same bank. Checking account is my operation account, cause I operated a small trucking company.

Really good advice here. The point about your LLC not existing (depending on tax classification), is a big one. It's both annoying but elucidating. Thank you. I noticed Relay was a recommended bank, and maybe I signed up with them years ago because of one of your videos, but I will say that their customer service is absolutely garbage. If you're reading this, try and find a better "bank" (Relay is a financial institution, not a bank).

question: Say the business income for the year is $100,000.00 and it is taxed at 30%, that leaves $70,000 for all operation expenses. You pay yourself $50,000 throughout the year, do you have to pay taxes on your $50,000 you paid yourself? Am i taxed twice? (Once on the $100K and once more on the $50K you paid yourself)?
@lorip14356 ай бұрын
You will pay tax on your business revenue after business expenses are deducted. That is called your net income. The amount you pay yourself has no bearing on the amount of taxes you pay. Just like she said in the video.
@davidhernandez81844 ай бұрын
No, once you pay taxes on the $100,000 anything you do with the money after that is not taxed again, this is why you get multiple banks accounts first acc, is your business acc, personal account, savings acc, your business gets paid $100,000 which you pay say 20% in taxes you put $20,000 into a tax account or saving account, that leaves you with $80,000 you pay yourself $50,000 that gets transferred to your personal account (tax free) your left with $30,000 for operational expenses payroll expenses (if you have employees)

@firstlast41659 ай бұрын
Yeah, as long as you pay taxes on your llc’s income you can do whatever you want with the money (including nothing)
@theroyaleknights2 ай бұрын
I am in NY, I asked a accountant and was told NO you can not do this is that with a llc. You would just take out what you need as a member or sole member and just gets claimed when doing taxes since llc is pass through to individual when taxes paid. ?
@bradleylivingston6514 Жыл бұрын
so... does that mean for instance, if my business makes $100k in taxable income and I pay myself $50k like your example. Would the tax rate be the 15.3% "self employment tax" on that $100k? & would there be any other specific taxes on that business income on top of the self employment tax? Also, would I then have to pay income tax on the $50k distribution I paid to myself from the business income, or does is that not taxed because it was already taxed as business income?
@KB-pv7lk Жыл бұрын
You pay a set taxed amount on the 100k no matter how much you paid yourself. You have to pay self-employment, state and federal taxes on that whole 100k. Thats why she said its good to save between 15-30% of your 100k for taxes.

Thanks for this video, super helpful. Can you/would you address how clients should pay you, in your name or in the name of the LLC when a the client requests a W-9? I ask because The IRS states "if a disregarded entity LLC that is owned by an individual is required to provide a Form W-9, Request for Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) and Certification, the W-9 should provide the owner’s SSN or EIN, not the LLC’s EIN." The W-9 form allows for entry of the LLC name (line 2). Do I simply fill in the name of my LLC in that line and then instruct the client in parallel (e.g. through contract and invoice) to pay in the name of the LLC?

My wife and I have a single member LLC. We paid for some business expenses with our personal credit card before our business card came in. How do we reimburse ourselves from our business bank account? Do we need to categorize the reimbursement as something specific? We'd like the expenses to be tax deductible as opposed to an owner distribution. We use Wave for accounting.

I paid myself $3k through a transfer from my business bank account to my personal banking account. Put it as a Draw in my accounting software. It that the right way to do it? Also, what percentage should i be taking as my payment? Also, are quarterly tax payments manditory, or just recommended?
@Darkeiser.710 ай бұрын
Why is there not a strict percentage??
@ProfitPotentialConsulting7 ай бұрын
There's not a strict percentage because everyone's tax situation is different. Since as a SMLLC you are taxed at the individual level, it flows onto your personal tax return and everyone has a different tax story. So somebody who is married with 5 kids will have a different amount to save as someone who is single with no kids. It will also be different if you also have a w-2 income in addition to your business income!
