IMHO from a 150 VX Owner who was looking to upgrade Positives - Looks great from the outside - Front dash and front seating area are excellent - Tech and screens look fantastic - 8 speed auto Negatives - Approx 10k + more expensive across the range - No gas struts for bonnet - 48 V mild hybrid adds complexity, and dubious benefits - Ad Blue addition and still has a DPF - Same carryover engine 2.8 L GD with no more power/torque - Seven seat set up is a backwards step with a much smaller amount of boot room/very high lip, plastic storage ‘box’ and lack of room for a fridge - Toyota says seats can’t be removed due to battery underneath - Weighs 250-300kg more - Cool box is much smaller than 150 on VX+ - Rear seats/2nd row don’t slide back-and-forth for more space - Only 2, 5 seat variants the GX and the altitude to avoid to limited boot space - Fuel tank is 110 L - less than 150 L from the Prado 150 - Smaller boot opening height than the 150 - no rear Diff lock in anything but the altitude - more models in old 150 have both - Payloads approx 100kg less than old 150’s - Stop start - Wheel not on the back, under car - Glove box and storage in the front is small I.e no sunglasses holder, storage above gearshift in cubby - Driver monitoring system annoyance - No space for a dual battery under bonnet -Sliding GVM kg, moves up and down depending on model grade. Previous Prado was fixed GVM for all models, with payload increasing as you went down the range with less kit.

I drove a GXL at our local Toyota dealer yesterday and was impressed with how it drove . Not so impressed is the third row seating storage making the boot almost useless. The exterior dimensions have grown a lot and the height might be a difficult in some garages. Also on a $87000 SUV the faux leather seating along with no memory seating for the driver and no electric adjustment for the passenger seat is a letdown. Based on the half hour drive I had I noticed wind noise around the driver and passenger windows , the engine is noisy and lags a little on take off. Ride comfort on the GXL with 18” wheels seems ok on bumpier roads. Safety tech as on most new cars is a little intrusive so hopefully some of it can be turned off. Based on my limited drive in the new Prado I’ll give it a 6 out of 10 mainly because of the dreadful third row seating storage design which i think could be a deal breaker with a lot of buyers. I don’t think the Ford Everest Sport V6 has anything to worry about at the moment.

The Ford Everest is not a Soft roader as you say but in Australia it is Fords version and direct competitor of the Prado. Both are great off road cars. Here in Australia both the Prado and the Everest are used as everyday cars and for weekend off roading. I suggest you may look up a few reviews comparing the Everest with the Prado for a better understanding of these vehicles and their uses. My main criticism of the 2024 Toyota Prado is the design of the third row in the 7 seater Australian models and the way they are stowed which takes up most of the luggage space in the trunk.

300kg heavier is ridiculous considering it has a smaller fuel tank. It won't realistically be able to tow 3500kg with a 350kg tow ball weight. You didn't mention GCM, that is probably too low like the GVM. 7 seat packaging is poorly designed. The toyota tax is well and truly gone up. 30,000 dollars between the bottom and top models for essential the same car. The 2.8 is going to struggle to move this car loaded and especially towing. The looks are a rip off of landrover, looks better than the 300 series though. At least for towing it has a live rear axel which is much better than independent rear suspension. Its a no from me.

Keep in mind, these hybrids and trims are decided by Toyota Australia, to drive upselling (profits). Toyota in other regions have 600nm plain diesel, with more choices such as 5 or 7 seats on any trim. Restricting options and forcing hybrid is a strategy to upsell, such as pushing people into a 300 series. Toyota Australia offers a less capable 250 than Switzerland, Germany, Italy, France and so on. It’s not a coincidence.
