As a database specialist, I acknowledge that while perfect security might be an illusion, ethical hackers like Ryan and many orhers are crucial in identifying vulnerabilities and enhancing defenses, making data protection effective. We need more ethical hackers in this modern era and youths should be encouraged for this domain.

Even ethical hackers like Ryan have to break certain cyber security laws to catch online predators. Scam baiters can bring down an entire call centre using a flooder to overload servers or will hide malware in a file that a scammer might copy during a reverse connection because they think it contains important credentials. If they are stupid enough to open the file, they just turned the pc or laptop into a brick.

the problem is it’s somewhat risky to encourage ethical hackers because there’s always a chance someone becomes an ethical hacker but realises the advantages at their fingertips if they were to become… let’s say a little more unethical.

Yeah, you need to charge at an airport? Use a USB condom. Charge only. Buy one, put it in your carryon luggage, or your pocket. You don't trust ANY cable or connection, because that's where malicious people will put them - airports or public places like high end hotel lobbies, etc. Also, be VERY careful about the wireless networks you're on in those places too.

The scary thing is that you don't need to be a hacker to do these types of exploits anymore. Any 13 year old can go online and download them. Or anyone with money can buy them off the shelf. Even if you are confronted with a situation where coding would help, then you can just ask AI to do it.

Be VERY CAREFUL with roblox and specifically video posting sites similar to KZbin. Looking up videos for robox videos on YT, tiktok, twitch, any of them really.. Or Disney etc!!! ANY cartoons looked up video sites can almost be guaranteed to eventually run into video posted showing explicit content. Directed at children, parents would have no idea unless told about it by the kids watching it or you happen to see it yourself. Innocent titles of the videos dont always equal innocent material in the videos! Problem is this: Capitalism exists. What does it want? The most money saved/earned at the most timely, least expense. Yes? Ok. So there are millions, probably billions of videos on sites like KZbin etc.. Who monitors that? On twitch, tik Tok, KZbin, etc? Eventually, a human gets to it and flags it for content, removes it completely, or let's it stay online if it is legit, and is safe for a kid to watch. Problem is, kids will search for videos of "Disney characters" or whatever other thing, and there isn't enough time or workers to get to every one in a timely manner and remove it. They can and DO sometimes slip through the cracks and some have content that is very adult mature content that can be ran into by kids. Completely by accident on their part, but very disgustingly intentional on the part of sick f**king people that post that evil crap, before the people/workers combing through the videos can flag it/remove it! So be very careful when it comes to these types of things. Just a piece of advice.

Can we start by normalizing kids NOT being on the internet? In our community of friends, no one under 16-17 has a smart phone or goes online in anyway unmonitored... it's at least a starting point.

My son is turning 15 and still doesn’t have a phone. Might get him one soon. But I’m really trying to keep his innocence. He uses the excuse he can’t chat with his friends…. I respond. Have them come over or use my phone. I’ve seen for years how sexualizing everything has become the norm. The ads are with younger and younger models it’s disgusting. It was a perfectly reasonable cornering question. Ryan just sidestepped it. Granted he previously explained what makes their penetration test higher quality than the industry standard "checkboxing" But just as a regular YT edutainment consumer I've seen channels with sponsors like Aura and Incogni. They do the digital footprint reduction in takedown filing to data-brokers and scanning if data-breaches impacted you. As a complete package Ryan's team might just be in a league of their own, but if anything Pat should've followed up with my examples so that Ryan further elaborates on the stratification of his industry.

I almost went for a job in forensics with a state highway patrol unit. A person in my church who I talked to explained what I'd run into in that unit - and I turned it down. I have no desire to see it. I'd spoken with a contractor with the DHS who had a side gig tracking down predators who explained to me some of the things done to kids, and I was sick to my stomach. They also told me lots of political leaders are up to their eyeballs in this stuff. It just sickens me.
