So happy to find this on KZbin. I remember it from long ago when I was a volcanology grad student. They were friends of my thesis advisor, and I was acquainted with them. Died in a pyroclastic flow on, I think Mount Unzen. I guess it's the way Maurice would have wanted to go. This video has great stuff for teaching introductory university classes!

Nature was one of my favorite shows growing up. I had this one on tape and would watch it over and over.

The track used at 54:13 (for the AGA plug) is Trevor Bastow - Feather Bed.

Big time find, excrono. Always liked that music bed for some reason.

To be fair, someone in the Feather Bed video comments made the discovery (Ian Sherman), but I thought it wouldn't hurt to make a link on the other side as well. The source track for the Siemens advert would be amazing to find as well.

This was painful to watch in hindsight. But their work lives on which is the way they would have wanted it.

Anyone else watching with the bittersweet knowledge that ultimately the Krafts were killed by one of their beloved volcanoes?

Her name is Katia, not Kaita (her name is misspelled in the description). Thanks for uploading the: Best. Volcano. Documentary. Ever. Well, probably... All hail Maurice and Katia Krafft! Ye surely be heroes of all time!

It was an honest mistake on the misspelling. Didn't catch it when I first posted.

Looks at the 4 dislikes on this video* I guess some people couldn't take the magmatude of this explosive documentary.

Damnit, take my like.

I think they probably got the dislikes from it being so old. There's a much better way than a dislike just don't bother watching

Like the Icelanders they should get central heating in winter and put the eruption to some good use. I think Iceland has had a few more eruptions since that one since this old video was made

glowing clouds? pyroclastic flows!
@KathrynsWorldWildfireTracking6 жыл бұрын
An old term for a pyro' flow was "incandescent clouds." A literal translation from the French volcanologist who discovered the phenomenon in Martinique around 1903.

I love the French term - "Nuee Ardente".

Wasn't that the couple that got killed by their reckless behaviour eventually. They got a little too close to one volcano and couldn't get out of it, at least I think it was them not too many couple chasing volcano that I can think of
