It’s worth mentioning this aero-crete is not the kind which caused problems with building failures in the UK, that was reinforced and autoclaved aerocrete with the problem being the steel reinforcement rusting inside the concrete. As seen in the video the steel structure is in plate form underneath the outer concrete skin, which means it’s not reinforced concrete and should be just fine through all seasonal conditions.

I love that they show the failures along the way. The only way innovation works is to try new things. Better to build a full-size prototype to understand what needs to be changed or refined.

Monolithic Dome has tested aircrete and the psi is just too low to be relied on. Maybe someone in the tribe could go to a Monolithic Dome building workshop and research all the years of testing that has already been done.

Investing in people is the best way to get productivity out of them. It's why inheritors of wealth generally go on to find more success than their less fortunate counterparts. If people in this country felt this way, poor natives would be a thing of the past. Concrete insulation is pretty cool, but it just seems like these people are being asked to think way outside the box, because they are so poor. Besides, how are they even supposed to make sloped sides with that goop? Won't the bubbles pop and cause it to settle back into regular old concrete? BTW, I know solar energy is very trendy and fashionable right now, but it's not a practical, reliable, or even cheap solution to the electricity problem. All of the stop gaps, like battery storage, large arrays, etc are all very ineffective and heating is one of the least efficient ways to use electricity, by a long shot. I'm not saying they need to use coal or nuclear or anything political. I'm saying we need to stop facilitating this lie that electricity is a scarce commodity that isn't easily reproducible. It's basically just a lie to give utility companies better margins. It fits into the scheme of capitalism much better, privatize everything, even if its wasteful, costs much more, and gives worse service. All of the conventional sources of energy, steam, water, wind, nuclear, solar, all are unnecessary and expensive. The solution was always right in everyone's face, the transformer.

If the tipi was so great why haven't those folks been living in them all this time?
@zomglulzwut11 ай бұрын
Well in part because buffalo were hunted to extinction in a deliberate attempt to break traditional plains native cultures’ way of life. Pretty hard to build a tipi back then without buffalo hides, unless I’m mistaken. There were also lots of programs and policies (some brutal, some well-intentioned) enacted to ‘civilize the indians’ by attempting to make smallholding farmers and ranchers in the American style out of communitarian and semi/nomadic peoples. Like with traditional building practices from all over the world, there’s a lot we can learn and also a lot to improve on with modern materials and methods. I think this project is a cool example of this approach, although I don’t personally think aircrete is the best approach.
