Smooth nostalgia :) This was my introduction to RPG games, together with Ishar 2 and Might and Magic 5. We played this game back in high school, in the mid 1990s. We had no sources of information here in Eastern Europe, so it was trial and error. We spent weeks trying to finish the game, each on our own, and we shared any tips on progress. We did not discover you can use those emerald blades to fight ghosts in the White Tower, so we just grinded it out and ran thru as fast as possible, trying to minimize the brutal onslaughts (that music is forever linked to this experience)... Or to get lost in the Urbish mines, trying to figure our what is next... Discovering you can freeze the swamp and reach new areas... Fighting unending wasp swarms... Getting the random rare drops such as the crown on the first floor of the tower, or the extra kite shield...Or the way I somehow created (and was able to re-create, so maybe it was not a bug but an eastern egg) an "illegal item" by placing a specific halberd to Baccata's hand in the swamp, basically enabling him to carry three weapons till the end of the game (one "baked in" and invisible, increasing his base attack) and increasing his attack even further, bringing him to lev 9 or 10 on fighter... I remembered all of it :) And to see the game can be finished - with knowledge of the story, mechanics and events - in an afternoon, is entertaining... Good memories, the game is a masterpiece - consistent visual style, story, music, gameplay... The middle part, where you had access to many areas - forests, mines, the Tower... and you had to figure out what to do, is really close to today's open world games. But it was tied together with narrative and atmosphere. And I got to experience it during the formative high school years, where you really could dive deep into these games and everything was somehow better :) Oh well, nice trip down the memory lane, after 27 or so years here in 2022.

The cube kills ghosts and fills mana at the same time! - hand of fate spell is an Easter egg...of course! - in Hand of fate, you can open the letters with steam at the beginning. They are from Scotia to Richard! - I remember that using both sandals of silence and cloak of concealment may have an effect. I never figured what exactly. Thank you for this let's play! Good stuff!

I remember playing this and eventually finding a second green skull in a tree-hole which was a quite powerful weapon. Normally only one can be found that is meant to kill the Larkhon. I also read that it was planned that Dawn joins the party when freed but this was dropped in the final game. Someone wrote he was able to hex-edit the game so that Dawn is member of the party. I guess this was cut as the final battle would be too easy then as all members should be very powerful in Castle Cimmeria. Overall I miss the mystic, dark and raw atmosphere from RPG from these times in games today. Too much overloaded magic effects and all this stuff. In my opinion Throne of Chaos is the best game of the series therefore. Guardians of Destiny was ok but overall felt more like an action adventure, also some features like putting real actors in the game looked very silly, especially the Hulines. Part III was a joke, didn´t feel like a serious game. It was also not very successful so it is presumable that there won´t be another installment of the series as EA holds the rights...

Honestly i liked idea of 3 as a game that introduced us to Westwood-verse, the only things that saddens me is just what a bitch was EA to Westwood studios, and what could've happened in better conditions. Maybe we could've even seen a game that is basically Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, but with Westwood Studios games. Like seriously imagine King Malcolm of Kyrandia + Luthor + Kane fight against scrin demigod-overlord, who is also reincarnated Belial!

One of my favourite games, just my 2 cents: Crossbow "Valkyrie" is one of the two weapons that always hit. And it's ranged Thus it must be applied always. There is a Wand of Lightning in one of the roots in the Yvel woods. You need a certain high rogue skill to find it though, not sure if it's cumulative 13 or one of the party members has to have 6. There is a swamp mouth that will gulp your useless items and provide 60 silver for each. Even for a rock. Certain quest items it won't gulp.
