I'm going with a 7900 XT, it's $850 (converted) in my area and that's about as high as I'm willing to go. Team green lost me with their ridiculous pricing, to get similar performance as the XT outside of raytracing I'd need the 4080 Super which is $1400. The 9800x3d isn't exactly cheap either, but premium CPUs make much more sense in my mind since it's not a part that needs upgrading as often.

FYI, at DDR5-8000 you should have the FCLK at 2000MHz because in 2:1 mode that equals a 1:1 ratio between the memory controller and the infinity fabric. This way you get lower latency, so DDR5-8000 is quite a bit faster than DDR5-6000, unless it's not actually fully stable, because you also need quite a good motherboard to be able to run 8000. (To be clear, it's still not worth the extra $100-$150 for the DDR5-8000 kit)

Actually Jason since Zen4 the IF is decoupled, if you look at in-depth reviews the IF is double rate half width, nevermind the data transfer through the IOD. It simply isn't synchronous, DRAM has high burst rates but is slow changing cacheline. Buildzoid did an in-depth on Zen memory over-clocking and the key is to run the bottle neck memory controller as fast as it can reach stably. Some reviewers had great results tightening timings and pushing DRAM to 6400 improving 9700x performance greatly. The problem naturally is YMMV, other chips may simply not reach 6400.

@MrAnimescrazy
@MrAnimescrazy Ай бұрын
No the heatsink is not necessary. I would say it is necessary if your motherboard doesn't have a heatsink for whatever reason. No you don't need an hdd and the ssd is much faster but comes in smaller sizes like for example ssd's max storage is 8 terabytes which is a lot of space but hdd's come in 20 terabytes or more. I would go with an ssd for faster speed and storage.

@Jason, I'm really questioning the MSI B650 Tomahawk. The reviews on this board are awful yet everyone is still recommending it. Same with the Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX V2. The Aorus Elite non-V2 has better reviews than the V2 but still seems hit or miss. Can't wrap my had around it. I'm leaning toward the Gigabyte x670e Aorus Master ($379 at Microcenter). It's overkill but it seems to have the most consistent reviews with lack of issues which is important. Also considering the ASRock B650E Taichi

I have a 4090/ 7900X combo for gaming, editing and streaming. Would anyone suggest moving up to the 9800x3d or would it ruin editing for me somehow?
