Just a helpful tip for anyone having trouble flashing their bios, don't have anything plugged into the reset switch pins on the MB. It could cause the flash to not work properly. I spent like 5 hrs figuring out why my bios flash wouldn't take and that was 100% the problem. Just hoping i can save someone else the headache or the possible RMA of a MB that doesn't actually need it.

The supplier of your motherboard should also be able to flash the BIOS for you if you do not have the CPU / USB drive required for this. You may need to use the RMA (returns) process to get this though, or could ask the supplier to do it at point of sale so that it is sent to you with a flashed BIOS. Also, I have an optical drive to watch blu rays and DVDs as well as to write backup disks. They still have their use.

I had to find this out the hard way. I actually started buying my PC parts about five months ago and the motherboard was the first part I bought. I was lucky enough to get a 5000 series cpu and a 6800 XT but it took me a couple days to figure out the problem. Eventually I took it to Micro Center because I didn’t wanna bother my friends to take apart their computer to flash the bios with a compatible CPU. But all in all I’m happy I built my first computer had to take it apart completely and then build it again.

If you're someone who wants to store something like family photos/video, or important files then a archival grade DVD is a great option. Won't go bad like a HD and last longer then a SSD. So yes even with all this tech now a days still gotta keep around the optical drive.

Another issue with AMD boards, that apparently has been on older gens as well, is that they have a tendency to short out USB channels randomly, and some fixes even include going from gen 4 to gen 3 on your GPU. AMD, Asus, Gigabyte and others are avoiding the issue, but a fix might be coming with the new bios /AGESA update?
