PCV Valve Change | Kia Soul 2014

****This is a 2.0 litre engine. I apologize if I said 1.6***
After noticing smoke come out of my tail pipe in the car and oil not staying at the levels it should have been, I took it to the mechanic. I was quoted over $200 for swapping out the PCV valve (which was the cause of the problem)
The swap was not worth the money so I did it myself. It was a SUPER easy swap on my Kia Soul 2014 model. The engine is a 2.0 liter.
If you go to the auto part store or choose to buy it online, make sure you know exactly what the PCV valve looks like that you will need or you will be making a return or going back to the store to switch it if it.

Good job Sam , we're proud of you, If your viewers are wonder what a PCV valve is , it stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation. Basically unwanted gases build up in your crankcase and need to be ventilated out. A PCV valve is basically a one way check valve that allow the gases to escape the crankcase. Great video. JT

Ok so if I may ask my Kia optima is losing oil no leaks garage says the car is fine. This has been happening for a while and now my car with plenty of oil I just topped it off is dieing occasionally and ticking I’m wondering did your vehicle do any of the above besides loss oil??

Yes it had instances where it felt like it was about to die while idling. It might be the engine recall you're experiencing, not sure.

very well done. It's super nice to see other women doing the work. Also, here is a PRO tip... but anytime you are working with an o-ring, like on this PCV valve, it is best to give it a nice coat of engine oil, so to help seat the part correctly...and not bind the o-ring during installation.

This is odd because the PCV you had at the start is what they sell and suggest for the 1.6L and the one you wound up putting in is what they indicate for the 2.0L in the 2014. I watched another where they tune up a 1.6L in the 2014 Soul and they used the first valve you had here. It was also the valve they sold me when I ordered mine and they said the other one you had didn't fit the 1.6L so it's got me a bit weirded out for this weekend when I'm going to replace mine. Hopefully I have the right one, I'm doing PCV, coils and spark plugs this weekend.

Ours was doing the same thing and it was actually part of a recall and they replaced our whole engine! We were having to change the oil every other month it was crazy and we spent money on all these different things they were telling us. A lot of people are experiencing this. Thank you for all the Kia Soul videos though! Helps a lot :)

We had this same thing happening to our 2014 Kia Soul and all mechanics would do is oil change after oil change. We took it in and apparently there is a recall and they replaced the whole engine and will continue to monitor the engine. They also updated something with the sensors. Thank you for all the great 2014 Kia Soul videos!

I provided the VIN at the store however I was given the wrong part. Had to go back. I would recommend taking your parts to the store with you just to make sure. Also you are welcome 😊

Depending on year and engine size there's a metal valve and a plastic valve. My 2018 2.0 engine takes the plastic valve.

Freedom Chaser - Just picked up one for my 2012 2.0l. However, up here in Canada it was over $20! lol I'll let you know how I make out.

Well, bit of a learning lesson actually. All plastic PCV valve...I broke it turning it on too tight (you cautioned regarding that!). Bought another and put it in, hand-tight this time. Beforehand, hooked up an OBD scanner and it reported cylinder 4 was misfiring. Afterwards, with the new valve in and system code reset (check engine light off), it seemed to have stopped. So far so good. I might replace the coils because I've read that could be a cause of a misfire and the Souls are known for this regarding the coils. They are the original ones so for less than $100 for 4, might as well! 👍

Not sure. But the store had asked for the plate number. I though it was strange myself at that time.

Hi Sam. I have a 2015 Kia Soul with 87000 miles, but it has a 1.6 liter. It burns almost 3 quarts of oil between oil changes and I have the dealership monitoring it since it's still under warranty. I'm going to have the PCV valve replaced and see what happens. I hope it solves the problem because I'll be very disappointed in Kia if it is the piston rings or valve seals that are worn; causing the engine to burn oil. Sam, you said it solved your engine burning problem? (Changing out the PVC)

No it was a temporary fix. I am now in the process of doing an oil consumption test because I am still having problems. They are checking it to see if it qualifies for a new engine since this engine is in a recall.

I think you mean they looked up you VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) not your license plate number. As they would have to be tied into your state tax records to pull up information with tag number.

They asked for the license plate number. I would not of been able to state my VIN from memory. Maybe it's what they do in the state it's registered in. 🤔

confirmed I went into O'Reilly's the other day to change spark plugs after watching the video off this channel they pulled my vehicle information off of my license plate no vin needed.

Upps pretty lady, you failed to fully push the hose all the way home, which left a distinctive kink in it, not good for your motor. And the risk the hose will dislodge it's self, even worse. Otherwise, a delightful presentation.
