@LordMaxedКүн бұрын
@@FlorentChardevelwell that’s going off the perspective that you’re buying these devices to strictly game and view them as just a console. A lot of people in the pc space buy these devices as pc replacements or extensions with full hubs and egpus at their desk, it’s literally their computer and the advantage of that is they don’t take up a lot of space, you’re not glued to your desk all day, and you can just pick it up and go. I don’t know what’s confusing about this lol. Everyone has different use cases for buying these devices. If you personally just want to game on it like a Xbox power to you but that’s not everyone. Some people don’t have the luxury of having space for a full PC or laptop. There’s literally Linux power users who utilize the steam deck as a whole workstation, the casual gamer doesn’t even realize the Steamdeck has a Linux desktop environment meanwhile these guys a running servers and taking full advantage of the pc side of things. But hey, we got options now so no more SteamOS vs Windows war, pick what you like if you just want to game or if you want a whole computer🎉 better yet windows is working on a more handheld friendly interface integration in the OS🎉 It’s a victory all around

I'm very disappointed that so many reviewers and journalists are acting like using Linux requires a computer science degree. It's a desktop with apps, pretty straight forward for everyone. I don't think there's ANY workflow that is actually easier on Windows, and the more reviewers act like Linux is scarey the more Windows users are gaslit into thinking they don't have a choice. Similarly, I'm sick of Linux advocates not bringing up the games that don't work on Linux. GTA5 was working and then Rockstar broke it on purpose, EA did something similar to their games. Modern CallofDuty has never worked, because of their in-house anti-cheat not working on Linux. Many AAA devs have a (wrongful) aversion to Linux and claim it lets cheaters and pirates through. It's frustrating and senseless, but when I advocate for Linux I make sure to point that out to people who don't know. Because if they buy the Steamdeck and then can't play Red Dead online, that's gonna be devastating.

I don't understand Adam's comment that you can't use the Lenovo Legion with SteamOS on it as a desktop and that you can't use other launchers on it. Unless Lenovo does something weird you can use SteamOS as a desktop and you can use other game-launchers on it. The easy way for the other game-launchers is by using a Flatpak, that isn't my favorite way to use software but it definitely works. However, you can also just install Lutris, Heroicgames and other tools, that just requires a bit more work. If you want to use the desktop, just start up KDE from the shutdown-menu and you have a fully functional desktop, you can use the browser, use office-software, render video's, make animations with Blender, make drawings, write code and compile it...whatever you like to do.

Windows 11 is a temporary problem, later this year Microsoft is looking to bring a more console-like Windows experience to handhelds. I for one hope Microsoft starts scaling back their dedicated console focus and go full speed into handhelds. This is exactly how they lost the mobile phone race. They should have used the Go S 8 inch display and size but with Oled Vrr and Z2e, with LCD and the old architecture Z2 they are too expensive, while the big Go has an awesome Oled but too big, heavy and uncomfortable with those removable controllers full of buttons

The legion Go S missed so hard not putting the z2 extreme... If it had the Z2 Extreme and the Legion 2 just had the detachable controllers and the oled. It would of been perfect. The S is nice but it had a weak chip for $$730 bucks...
@IMP429Күн бұрын
The 32gb and everything is dope but they put a clone of the z1 chip in
@LordMaxedКүн бұрын
I’m not seeing the take here.. it’s meant to undercut the Rog Ally and outperform the Steam deck at higher tdps. They literally gave 2 great alternatives to their competitors lol. If it had the higher tier z2 extreme that would boost the price and still make the Ally X more appealing. The average consumer will choose the cheaper option as long as the experience is similar which it will be because it has 120hz and VRR. You can’t hear people going “hey it’s not as strong as the Ally X but it won’t matter anyway since VRR will make it look nice anyway”? That was Lenovo’s marketing strategy
@IMP4292 сағат бұрын
@LordMaxed It just sucks that the Legiongo Go S has no case same chip and no kick stand for more money than the OG legion. It has all this dope shit better comfort and better ram. I just wish it had a better chip "z2 extreme to go with the 32gb ram. Edit * and no detachable controllers. All that and it's still $740. I'll just go with the Legion go 2 as long it's not $1200 or 1k

Sorry but the 1920x1200 is a bad choice. It kills integer scaling at 800p. Even though it is OLED the Lego 2 is a downgrade because of that.
@samsquanch138217 сағат бұрын
I don’t see a point in a windows legion go S.. but I mean I guess you can just swap out the drive and install steamOS onto it. Since that’ll come with 32gb vs 16gb of ram

Lenovo: for the Legion Go 2 make sure the speakers aren't trash like the first gen version.
@FlorentChardevelКүн бұрын
I wonder WHY the SteamOS version is cheaper then. Does the Windows licence cost Lenovo some money for each unit? Or maybe did Valve give them some money for each SteamOS unit? Either way, the SteamOS version is definitely more interesting. And you can even do workstation stuff in SteamOS.
@LordMaxedКүн бұрын
I think both options are interesting actually as we have choice and while the SteamOS variant is clearly an improved steam deck, the windows version is a budget option against the Rog Ally. Performance may be weaker on the Z2go option but whether you get the z1 extreme version or the Z2go you still have VRR and can play mainly everything the Ally X can for cheaper.. and everyone will always want to pay less for a near similar experience. I like how Lenovo made a device to rival against everyone. Hearing that last bit I see you’re a Linux user which is cool actually. I wish I started out learning the OS back in the day. Unfortunately, for most consumers of SteamOs and the Steamdeck contrary to KZbin, the average gamers just game on these devices and hardly use the desktop or know it exists lol. Power to the hardcore Linux users who show the full pc capabilities of SteamOs
@electricindigoball1244Күн бұрын
Valve doesn't charge anything for support in getting a device compatible with SteamOS and SteamOS itself is free. Meanwhile it will be a cold day in hell when MS stops charging computer manufacturers per each device with a Windows license.
@miguelcollado5438Күн бұрын
Man.. the STEAMOS version is really going to outsell the other, and I foreshadow Lenovo adding more memory/SSD Volume/API bump when they see the sales numbers by the end of the year, lol.. If they released this much sooner, XMAS 2024, i would have picked one up for my youngest Kid that is showing interest in Steam games at his young age.

Stop pretending that Linux isn't "a computer", or that the average person couldn't use it as a computer. Switch over to desktop mode and try it out. It'll be atleast as stable as any Windows version I've used (XP, Vista, 7, 8.1, 10, and 11).

While i am willing to give up the old screen for a native landwscape+VRR OLED I cant wait for a Legion Go 3 with 1600p OLED 144hz native landscape+VRR Sure, 1200p is easier to run than 1600p But do you know whats easier to run than 1200p? 800p The 1600p display can use integer scaling to play games at 800p effectively natively, where as a 1200p display has to drop down to 600p, below the targted UI scaling of 800p for most games since 2010

Why pay 100 extra bucks for the Windows version? I can get a Legion Go S and dual boot Windows 11 (with a legit key, for cheap, if you know where to look) if I have programs that won't run on Linux. Best of both worlds, for at least 75 dollars less.
@magicalbanana1263Күн бұрын
SteamOS has a long way ahead of it but this is a great step in the right direction. The more people adopt it, the more attention it'll get and the more MS might have to stop sitting on their laurels with their thumbs up their own asses (like that'll ever happen).

I never understood the reason for removable controllers, and I have never used that silly mouse mode, also never used the rear buttons on any of these devices including controllers, no game I have played has used them by default, I find them all redundant, they could reduce costs by making a device without all of that junk, all of these extra buttons on the Legion Go are just plain annoying, and if they put another undersize battery in any of these devices, I will not buy one again, I have battery anxiety now from owning a Legion Go, they should stop f'ing about and make these devices with dual hot-swappable batteries, it can be done, I have tablets that have this feature, and its the one thing I would like to see on a future handheld game console, the current hardware is good enough, its the battery setup that needs improving.

They should have different colours for hte lego2.. Also.. not putting the usb c at the top.. and why the headphone jack on the bottom? That is a wierd choice.
@TheSoledeeКүн бұрын
right? why put the second usb c at the bottom? its gonna make docking kinda hard for me personally and probably for others as well since a portable monitor goes into one usb c and a dock goes into the other usb c on my Ally X😕

I am glad a steamOS version is coming out. I would rather SteamOS be a thing I can just download and install if the hardware is basically identical. I get why you might want Steam OS out of the box. But I would rather have it as an option than as the default.
@LordMaxedКүн бұрын
A reasonable take. I personally can’t do everything I want on Linux so Windows is home for me literally being a clone of my pc so I don’t have to sit at my desk and turn my computer on to do work or play games. That said if I had a 4 tb ssd I wouldn’t mind splitting storage down the middle and gaming strictly on SteamOs on one side of my drive. I like options.. not being forced to get jiggy with something I’m not comfortable with using whether that be windows or linux

Continuing to wait for Microsoft to make a handheld friendly windows version. Ill stick to my steam deck oled for now.
@asmod4nКүн бұрын
Windows 8 with its tile based UI would have been a good handheld PC OS, anything else coming out of redmond is a worse experience than steamOS. Plus you got alot of game launchers for steamOS, which have more configuration possibilities than what is available for windows. There simply is no console like experience for windows, its all exclusively available for the dying xbox platform.
@brcosminКүн бұрын
Think it's not as impactful with a Z2 at these prices. And I wish it were on one of those newer AMD AI HX chips, those have much beefier graphics, and this is a handheld gaming device so it's a no-brainer.
@LordMaxedКүн бұрын
The Z2go was used because it performs better than the deck but slightly underperforms the Ally X. The marketing strategy was to undercut the Ally X in price while offering nearly the same performance but all the same features. People will choose the cheaper option and literally claim the performance doesn’t seem that different or matter because of VRR

Valve dwffo subsidised their version, wisely. It will destroy the windows version in sales which will be noted. Heck you can install windows on the steam os version extremely easily and for free! (Or for like 3$ for a key license if you don't know how to activate windows without a key)
@electricindigoball1244Күн бұрын
It's a win-win-win situation. Valve increases Linux adoption among gamers, the PC manufacturer gets free support from Valve while reducing their dependence on MS and the end user gets to save money by not paying for a Windows license.

Since this is a prototype, I hope they move those buttons they have on the side of the right joycon on the Legion Go 2. I don't understand who thought it'd be a good idea to put those buttons there when they'll be in the middle of your palm when you're holding the device. They need to just move them to the back with the others.

Ruined by baffling back button implementation. Why go from 4 back buttons down to 2? It's not like you even get 4 back buttons on the premium version, you get some crazy frankenbutton configuration because lenovo insist on providing a removable fps joystick nobody asked for.
