After much experimenting I found that I like tuning the small side to E6 and the big side to G2 the best. I recommend using the app, "Vocal Pitch Monitor" to tune it.

Hare Krishna, yes! I still use it. I had about 8 clay drums before I got it and many of my students still use those so I demonstrate playing and technique on both. But whenever I go to the temple or take out a drum, it's the Madhura Mridanga that I'm using.
