So, I just found this video because I was eating peas with macaroni and cheese.. I thought to look up how peas are harvested. Very interesting video! Beautiful landscape too!

Harvested peas during summer 2021 and you’d have thought that after seeing about 30 fields of nothing but peas, i’d hate the sight and smell of them 🤣 but no! If anything, i love peas more now than before

Great video of the Seneca Hancock crew. I have been filming in the Central Sands for the last 18 years, and have watched that crew many times. Was it a Wysocki field?

Thanks for watching! I used to work on this crew, it was great coming back and documenting it!

Pea harvesters were scary to look at as a kid, but very fascinating.

What do they do with all the scraps? Just leave them in the field or what?
@CoreyPerron7 жыл бұрын
Yep, they will just till the scraps into the field when they are done.

I did this for seneca foods. I really wish we had auto steering because my neck and upper back would get EXTREMELY sore from staring down at a head for 12 hours straight. Lol 😆 good times

Are these private farmers with their own equipment or is it a coopertave or custom harvester
@michaeldobberstein53656 жыл бұрын
Usually the farmer owns the field. The company harvesting owns all the equipment other than semis. Semis are considered sub contractors who get paid to haul the peas for the company.

In Minnesota the farmers do everything but the Harvest. The canning company owns the harvest equipment.

Looking at the harvest shown, it’s hard to imagine making any money growing peas.

@@CoreyPerron Just found your site. What are some of the names of the varieties? I assume they aren't the same as garden peas since they don't all ripen all at the same time. Great video! Central IN. Thanks!

How long is it from seeding to harvest?
@waterfowlspringer4 жыл бұрын
Whe we raised them on the west side of Washington State, we planted in April to May and harvest would start July 5 and run to mid August.

@@waterfowlspringer I see, so about a month less than lentals and chickpeas.
