frantz altidor Thanks for your response. Are you a US citizen? Your senior year in college fill out n application for Peace Corps, www.peacegorps.gov then send it in. between now and then check out the website and see what it offers. Chemical Engineering is something that can be put to use in PC. maybe, teaching math or chemistry as examples.

frantz altidor Do you speak a language other than English? Or, have you even taken a semester in a foreign language. I took 1 semerster of French in college and they started looking at French speaking countries. Drop me a note in the months/years to come regarding Peace Corps. I loved my tours as a PCV and, if I wasn't paying off a house mortgage I'd reapply.

I feel as though all of the large and rich world powers such as the US, China, England, Russia, Germany, etc. should all come together and unite with a global Peace Corps, I feel as though focusing on providing a better understanding a better understanding of Americans is not as necessary as a better understanding of your fellow man from all corners of the earth. Also, with the united economic resources in these countries, much more help could be provided.

Jacob Ramage I just got accepted to serve starting in July. The application process is long and thorough, but easily navigated because their communication to you (the applicant) is excellent. The initial application takes a solid hour by itself (not including preparing your resume, if you don’t already have one). Also, while I don’t think it’s technically required, you’re pretty much expected to have a bachelors degree (or about to graduate, if you’re applying for a position that starts after graduation), at a minimum. I’d be happy to answer questions about the application process, since it is still fresh to me.

@driftingraven19 жыл бұрын
in other countries you stand out a lot. while in Cambodia people were constantly staring pointing and talking about me and other American women. the attention is constant and people can sometimes want to touch your hair flirt and try to push the limits of what is appropriate. one of the girls couldn't deal with that and went home. it's a reality of living overseas, especially in a homogeneous country and can be dangerous. you have to be prepared for it and know how to respond

+lisette This lady, an elderly lady, had been in PC for about 20 months and was feeling safe. Volunteers hitchhike, not all but, several. This lady, hitchhiked getting in a car with two males. She told me that the 3 of them were getting along fine, talking about many things, in French. These two guys also spoke Tomachek which she didn't speak. They took a dirt road into a secluded area where they raped her. She hitchhiked alone. When she got to the capital, she went to the medical center and spent several hours speaking with a nurse about what happened. The nurse allowed her to go home on medical leave for 6 weeks. The volunteer, my friend, said that PC took really good care of her and provided her with all the counseling necessary.
@stephenspringer86588 жыл бұрын
+Cliff Yablonski Thanks for your response. 20% is a bit high. I did 3 tours and knew more than 200 girl PCV's. That would means more than 40 were raped. I knew of only one. I knew several girls who fooled around with HCN, Host Country Nationals but, regretted it. They'd talk about how they regretted it. When I was at my 1st site in Kenya, my house was broken into and my money and credit cards were stolen. The guy who broke into my house had a key that the previous volunteer had given him. I never knew this guy had a key. Horror stories, yes. I lived in Washington DC for two years. I can talk about horror stories there as well.

Is it a good idea to join peace corps right after high school, and use the money earned to help pay for college? Ex-volunteers only please Edit: To clear any confusion, I am *not* going to (potentially) be doing this solely for money. I love social studies and geography, and I think an experience like this would be amazing to put me out of my comfort zone when I am fresh out of high school to try to experience a different region of the world. It's also a unique way for someone like me, who doesn't like robotic like large company chain jobs, to earn some money in a way which will forever change my life. Just a side-note.
