Medieval 2 was the last great Total War game that prominently featured roleplaying elements and detailed political interactions. Screw gravitas; I'll take command, dread/chivalry, loyalty, piety, authority, subterfuge, charm, finance, influence, violence, orthodoxy, purity. And screw having a whopping maximum of 3 traits and 2 ancillaries (one of which has to be a wife); I'll take my lists of detailed character traits and ancillaries that are gained and lost over the character's entire life. And screw having at max 6 buildings in cookie-cutter cities; I'll take my customisable cities and castles with detailed population figures, guilds, player-chosen garrisons, and agents that can actually be stationed inside them. And screw day-one-DLCs. When I want to play as Denmark, I can earn it by beating the game.

***** The only thing I dislike is that its a bit too...I dont want to say too complex but managing cities if you have an empire as big as half of Europe is quite difficult and to make a "war" arround trade and so on its annoying that you need to see the animation EVERYTIME because it does not get fast played >: I mean whats the point in seeing that guy stretching his arm towards yours all over again every turn multiple times if you are big, it made me play without them, its not like I need them anyway but yeah >:

Love it how the devs wanted to make a so big difference with Rome 2 Total War and promised so much and talked so much how proud they are, it was just as much bullshit as I expected it to be. And everyone on steam knows that which is why nobody plays it when you look at the steam statistic the top one is Shogun 2, then Atilla, Empires, Medieval.

Same thing with Rome Total War too. You actually bonded with the Leaders, upper lower realms and see how it feels to be in the Frontlines in the eras. Medieval II Gold. Rome Gold. Then I was addicted to history games like this. I even got Spartan Total Warrior.

This video is so full of win and epic. Added to my favorites. Damn, it's almost on par or even equal to those Medieval 2 Total War Movie videos. Indeed one of the best Medieval 2 Total War videos I've ever seen, everything just fits so well with the music. I agree with some comments, to me, Empire and Napoleon are NOT part of the Total War series, and I haven't bought Napoleon, and Empire Total War I'm thinking about selling it. I'm just waiting for the next one, hopefully a remake : )

@PeaceSoldier I love empires and am probably one of the few who reads everything, but I got to say, my favorite is Rome Total War, each game gives off its own feeling. I think why people are hating on empires is due to the new format, which i find is great for empires! I would not want to see RTW 2 have the same format though, its just that so many people are used to the old style and "born into it" so they may not like it as much as someone who starts with empires.

From the look of Medieval blood was going to advance in Empire but instead they used less. @tzikas9 Hmm there's the old version of Shogun and TW fan community is still waiting for the second release, probably out early in 2011. The newest I've heard of is Napoleon Total War, though it'll be pretty much like Empire and most probably too will lack almost every good aspect of previous Total War releases u_u However, i recommend you to play the complete collection, and maybe try 1 or 2 mods to get a new experience while playing... I definitely recommend "The Third Age" for M2TW Kingdoms
