Nice job. Most people over prune and us newbies don’t get a good understand of the big picture. Your tree looked like mine and this will help be not to over prune. I know that heavy pruning in the winter just makes aggressive growth to deal with in the summer.

Really well explained - many thanks. I'm in the UK and mine suffers from peach-leaf curl unless I spray it with Bordeau-Blue - do you have the same problems in your part of the world? The B/Blue does a good job of preventing the leaf curl and is a mix of copper sulphate and quick lime - banned industrially but I use it sparingly on my single nectarine tree - without it I'd get no fruit at all. Last year, it produced about 4 of the best pieces of fruit I have eaten in 66 years - so I want to stop the leaf curl which ravages the blossom. Thanks again!

Thank you for the video. I have a question and I'm hoping you can help. I'm here in Southeast Iowa (5B). I have two peach trees. I have scaffold branches, several laterals on each scaffold branch. Pruned them this summer but neglected to wait for late summer. The top half of my scaffolds are new growth from spring. The laterals on these scaffold branches are also new growth from spring. Since I pruned two weeks ago, I'm getting laterals all up and down where I thought there would be flower buds. Will these new summer laterals have time to form fruiting buds before next spring, or did I mess up by triggering new growth and have lost what would be fruit bud growth on spring growth that would be second year fruiting wood? Thanks for any advice.

Should this be done in winter or early spring on stone fruits?

This depends on your location. In Southern California, we recommend pruning in January

@@OttoandSonsNursery were in southern Washington state zone 8a.. I typically prune in winter here but I've got confusing info about stone fruits...some say dormant and others have told me they get some kind of fungus if it's done during dormancy?..just looking for clarification from a pro 👍
