heard it was used in b3313, so maybe people just had that as a first experience rather than the demo, and put that unease from the game onto the music ? i agree that it's chill. Could have released the gamecube with that as a sort of demo game for everyone, rather than just devs.

It's not a whole game, but a short while ago, I saw a video called "Mario 2000" or something similar to that, and the sheer excitement I felt when I saw this area as the lobby was unreal. Not sure how that project will go down, but if nothing else, it's at least a cool mario 128 idea :]

So I would say it is quite possible indeed that the music would be identifiable among sm64 beta community peers. Also, to add fuel to the fire, ZetaV6 by Halo used a chopped and mono version of this track, instead of a .mid to .m64 remix.
